I think it's impossible to happen, because Spain is a very old and very respected country that has no problems with any country (except with Morroco , because of illegal immigration).
Basque and Catalan cultures are very respected also, but they cannot get any legal independance. And also Spain cannot be destroyed because it's a member of EU.
Spain and France would never accept it, and also everyone knows that ETA is a very dangerous terrorist group which killed civilians and police in both sides of the border.

I don't think anyone knows, but it would probably depend on what country did it.

If it was a rebel nation like North Korea, they'd probably just ignore it and tell everyone that North Korea was nuts.

If it was the United States or some nation like that, Spain would probably retaliate by recognizing Puerto Rico as an independent nation and sending an ambassador there.

Stop insulting Macedonian name, you Greek troll.

It could never happen. Most of the Factories are in the North...France would never recognize Pays d'Basque... so it would only be the 3 regions in Spain. Navarra =) Where I live wouldn't join the alliance, they opted out of being part of the Basque Country, so we have our own Government, version of Basque, and laws....

Our life is to diffrent of Bilbo for example... and there are many jokes about them. We are indepent region, full indepence would give us nothing more than trouble

Spain would become a very poor country. Depending on how the "revolution" happend, if there was a war I think most countries wouldn't trade with use, and most of the tourists wouldn't come any more because it would have a bad reputation.

I think there would need to be a continous war, for 5 years + and two Prime Minsters assinated... but even then I'm not sure if we'd get it

GORA EUSKADI!

Edit: I've just turned ETB on and have an Error message... and now I've put TVE 1 on and says that 1 hour ago a bomb went off in the TV offices in Bilbao... the last bomb was at my campus in November... but I didn't think we would meet 2009 with out another insodence

I think you don´t have any idea of what Spain or Basque Country is.

That cannot happen because the Basque Country has not declared its independence. You can't go and say "I recognize this piece of land as an independent state" if they haven't declared independents themselves.

And a lot of Basque people want to be Spaniards/Frenchs. And in the "Spanish" Basque Country Spanish is the most spoken languages ( much much more than Basque, believe me, I've been living there).
Why don't you ask what France would do? Part of the Basque Country is in France, I remember you it.

For that to happen, a referendum should be celebrated firstly, and the European Union would have something to say too. If that happens, Spain would have to accept that. ( Spanish Army wouldn't invade the territory as if they were Israel,if that's what you're wondering ).

But I'm sure that Spanish government would try the referendum not to be held if someone proposes it ( legally ), despite that it's probably that the result were that most Basques prefer to continue inside the Spanish State.
In fact, the Basque Governor tried it recently, but it was an illegal propose, so he couldn't.

I think independentist movement is even stronger in Catalonia than in the Basque.
