Depends where you go - it's a large area. Some places are touristy and some places are very beautiful and untouched. I've liked everywhere I have been on the costa del sol, except torremolinos. Maybe narrow your question to a particular city and you will get a better answer.

Its pretty much over run with British ex-pats lol.
There are over 300,000 of them living in the Costa Del Sol. It all depends what you want really, i saw you asked what is Mallorca like for kids, well to be honest the Costa is the type of place you'd go with some friends to party and just sun bathe. Mallorca, the Canaries or even the Costa Daurada (salou) would be better suited for families.

its a little Britain lol, i wouldn't recommend a holiday there, go to the Costa Blanca (where i live :D) less tourists and so beautiful.

If you're looking to lay in the sun and enjoy beach life then it's great! If you're looking for "the Spanish experience" then I'd try someplace else. I hear there are even some stores and restaurants which have put signs out which say, in Spanish, "Spanish Spoken Here" to try to lure the few Spaniards living/visiting there. That's a joke. My point is as has been stated above, there are LOTS of Brits all along the Costa del Sol so it depends what your objectives are.
