If you want an inexpensive one, DON'T even think about the centre of the city. If you have a car stop at any of the roadside restaurant/hotels; excellent value, and park on outskirts and get bus to centre

My apologies for this answer but the best hotel I´ve stayed at when I visited Barcelona was actually about 90 kilometres north in the town of Cardona. I stayed at the Parador there. It was an amazing 8th century castle perched way up high on a hilltop. It wasn´t cheap but if you want to spoil yourself for one night and have the privelege of staying in such an old castle, do take the opportunity.

I might recommend you to visit http://www.cheapbarcelonahotels.co.uk/index.php They have a good selection of barcelona hotels categorized by neighbourhoud and with some helpful comments.

I often use http://www.travelsupermarket.com/travelmerge/travelsearch.aspx?package=5
The hotel reviews are often quite helpful

Energy
St. Moritz Hotel. It is located just in the center. The St. Moritz has a Restaurant with international cuisine. Private parking and special rooms for handicapped persons. It cost about USD189-310 per night as at today’s rate. . Rates changes with seasons. So do make a check based on your actual departure date.

Can Fisa is a cheaper one. Hotel is set in natural surroundings, only 20 km away from Barcelona. It cost about USD66 per night as at today’s rate.

Hope this helps. If you need other information, see if the websites are helpful.
