When is the weather the greatest? Not too hot.
When do the biggest festivals take place?
What are the best cities to visit?

Two of the bigger festivals are Semana Santa (the week between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday) in Seville, and the April Feria, which takes place the last week of April. (also Seville).
The most romantic city (imho) and most typically what people expect when they think of Spain (not necessarily so typical of all of Spain...but what you probably think of...bullfights, flamenco, moorish towers, etc.), Seville is my favorite city, (of course, I lived there, so rather partial, anyway!) and that's the best time of year there...not too hot, but nice temps. Not too rainy usually. March and April.
There's also a summer horse fair in Jerez de la Frontera. The famous Running of the Bulls in July in Pamplona, San Isidro in Madrid...actually, every city and town has a fair of some sort at some time of the year. |

I went in April and it was great! Not too many tourists (sure there were a few but not a lot at all). Also, the weather was perfect there at that time of year. I was jeans and a t-shirt weather with maybe a light jacket. I think that a lot of people go in the summer when its really hot, but if you're walking around a city trying to sight see then you don't want really hot weather and you don't want to be cold either. Spain is also really pretty at this time. Everything is just in bloom and beautiful. I highly recommend going sometime in April or another spring month. |

When is the weather the greatest?
Spain is known for good weather however only in the summer is it hot in the majority of the country. In winter it can be freezing cold. In May it can rain a lot (It did last year) and outwith the summer months it isn't very hot at all. In the north it can be cold and rainy for most of the year, in contrast in the south, especially Seville it can be unbearably hot in summer and mild in the winter. So lets say you go to Madrid in the middle of the country, only June - August will it be really hot. If you go to Seville it could be unbearable hot May - October.
When do the biggest festivals take place?
Depends what your into. killing bulls, tomato throwing, fireworks, religious festivals. Check Spain and Spanish festivals on Wikipedia.
What are the best cities to visit?
Depends again, Barcelona is very popular but Barcelona is in Cataluna. There you'd get a Catalunian experience in contrast to a true Spanish city like Madrid. (That is arguable however I feel Cataluna is like its only little country with different mindset and language). Madrid is huge and busy and worth a visit for sure. I personally like the South, the people there are different, if you want to see singing, dancing, flamenco and a lot of good weather I'd go there. If your from the UK and want to feel more at home go to the Costa del Sol, Costa Bravo to find the thousands of UK immigrants and holiday makers giving the rest of us a bad name.
If you want to see and experience the best of Spain I'd recommend. Barcelona (Catalans, Architecture), Seville (Flamenco, Weather), Salamanca (Lots of American Students and like a Huge Museum), CƔdiz (I've never seen anything like CƔdiz, Beaches are amazing too) and if you can suffer the amount of people, traffic and a huge city then Madrid aswell.
I live in Valladolid.
hope that helps |
