Where are the best places to visit in southern Spain? |
Have been to Spain a few times as my boyfriends parents have a flat out there in Porta de la Duquesa. We have only ever visited Sabinillas and Porta Buenos. |

From Duquesa I would suggest:
Tarifa - a cool windsurf and kitesurf town with whale watching trips,
Conil a nice typical Spanish seaside town.
Both these have great beaches.
Jerez is also pretty close and a good place to visit. And Gibraltar is very close.
But in the end it comes down to your interests.

I live about 25 miles up the coast - its a great place to visit. And as you will see on the above web links there is far more to the area than just the beaches and bars!

Barcelona. But since you're visiting southern Spain, I'd recommend Costa Del Sol. Google image it, it looks nice. |

If you´re talking southern Spain, Seville and Granada are a MUST. Loaded with history and culture.
Depending on how far north you´re considering, Toledo is a half hour south of Madrid. Amazing views, and one of my all-time favorites.
Also worth visiting if you have extra time: Córdoba or Málaga. |

From Puerta de la Duquesa you should drive up to Ronda, then turn left and explore the white towns in the sierra such as Grazelema and Arcos. You can them drive to Jerez.
Visit Sanlucar de Barrameda and go to Baja del Guia for the best seafood in the south.
The alternative is to go along the coast and visit Vejer de la Frontera, Tarifa, and the fantastic beaches near Trafalgar.
Avoid Algeciras. (It is a dump.). and Cadiz which is so grotty it was used as Cuba in a James Bond movie.
Remember, the real Spain is only 100 metres from the road! |
