Where do I go to get a work permit to work in Spain? |
I am going to spain in about 6 months to teach english, and I am trying to find out where in the US do I go or call "or website" to visit to fill out a work permit information and to obtain it, the program that I am with "TEFL" told me you don't really needed it, but since it is part of the law, I really don't want to get in trouble for not having one. Does anyone know where to go. I am a US citizen and currently live in Kansas City Missouri (in case i need to to the embassy is why I put that information there) thank you.

hey!! it really depends on the program whether u need a visa (or work permit) but if you call the embassy they will let u know better than any of us. have a look at this website, its from the spanish embassy in missouri!
http://www.immihelp.com/visas/schengenvisa/spanish-consulates-usa.html
and yeah, i think its better to call and talk to someone, coz sometimes you leave a message and they are so busy that will take a while till they get back to you, so you should insist!!! hehehe
Have a look at the website first, to see all sorts of documents you will need, might have fewer questions after that, and then give them a call!
hope u enjoy your staying in spain!! good luck! |

It's up to the Spanish employer to provide the work permit. If the program you're going to provides paid employment it should also provide the work permit. US nationals are not permitted to work legally in Spain without a permit, and if you're found working illegally you will be deported at your own expense.
I strongly suggest you check out this program before committing yourself. As part of the EU it's up to the employer to prove that they cannot find an EU national to fill the position. There must be plenty of EU nationals with TEFL qualifications, so I find it strange that this company is seeking American teachers.
Is the program associated with a school or university? To be able to stay for more than 90 days in Spain, you need to either have a student visa or work visa. Note students are not allowed to work. Which visa are you applying for? |

From the Embassy ?? I think there's one in New York and one in Washington...
I'm sure you'd be able to do most of it over the phone, e-mails and fax though
Here is where they are
United States
* Washington DC (Embassy)
* Boston (Consulate-General)
* Chicago (Consulate-General)
* Houston (Consulate-General)
* Los Angeles (Consulate-General)
* Miami (Consulate-General)
* New Orleans (Consulate-General)
* New York (Consulate-General)
* San Francisco (Consulate-General)
* San Juan (Consulate-General) |

If the program you are on isn't providing you with a visa, you probably need to take care of it yourself.
Good luck! They aren't giving many out, these days!
Check again with your program. Make REALLY sure they aren't going to just leave you high and dry, working illegally. They sound like they have a really nonchalant attitude. I don't know if I would go along with that.
The place to contact for work visas (and all visas) is the nearest Consulate...Spanish, that is. I'm not sure, but I think there might be one right there in KC.? Check their website, and find the one closest. Probably Chicago. I'm pretty sure they do it all through the mail. |
