My recommendation would be Benalmadena, on the Costa del Sol.
Good choice of accommodation, loads to do (day and night), very reasonable to eat (in or out) and cheap travel by local bus or train. A good site for finding accommodation is holiday lettings, where you will find a good description of the properties with photos, available dates and direct contact with the owner. The complex Jupiter/Minerva has one of the largest pools on the Costa del Sol with a very large garden area surrounding it. The beach and the wonderful Paloma Park are very close, as is the marina, the cable car & Tivoli World.
From Gatwick to Malaga, on the 28th/29th June, there is a choice of 6 flights per day with Easyjet, with returns on the 4th/5th July. The return price for the 4 of you, including taxes, charges and 1 hold case each, currently totals £315.72p. These prices tend to change upwards, as the bookings increase, so an early decision would be advisable.

take a look at our web site we do self catering but by the sound of it that's not what your looking for but it does give a lot of information about the costa del sol the site is casa del sun .co.uk

most places in spain are child friendly, If you have a problem with mosquito's take vitamin B tablets start taking them two week be for you leave and all through the holiday

I would also recommend Costa Almeria. We've been to Roquetas De Mar several times (Arena Centre, which is 4 stars). Lovely big long beach and it isn't bombarded by Brits (or at least it didn't used to be).

If you want a real Spanish Feel Holiday go to Villaricos. This is a small spanish fishing village in Almeria and although the village is not an actual resort the resort of Mojacar is close to hand so this type of holiday appeals to most age groups. The cost of apartments is falling at the moment so they offer very affordable accommodation. The local Airport is in Almeria and Monarch do scheduled flights there from many British airports

Well I do agree with Jerry but there is much more to say about that area. I go there two times a year in two short periods since 16 years:)because I have a summer cottage at Vera Playa Naturist resort (the biggest in the all europe)which stands at 3 km from Villaricos. Villaricos its a wonderfull fishing village and from Mojacar until there the climate its more generous.
Please check satelite google map.
Mojacar its a Arabian style and very touristic area. Than you have Garrucha were you can get incredible fresh fish and then starts all the little resorts by the beach until Villaricos. Don't forget to visit the villages more inside like Cuevas de Almanzora and the golf by Palomares village.
The weather is so good in the area that is the only place at the south of spain were the Boba turtle comes to put eggs at Playazo Beach. 3 km from Villaricos.
In the center of Villaricos you have a restaurant and small hotel family runned called Playa azul. There you can have fish and seafood caught by the owners in there boat. Ask for Paco and you will have a wonderfull time.
All this 90 km from Almeria airport and about 85 to 90 euros taxi if the case. Motorway exit Vera. Direccion Murcia. Microclimate from the desert of Tunisia wich across the Mediterranean.
Have a good look browsing "veraplaya" and you will find everything.
You have direct flights from England to Almeria also at low cost . You have very good prices in appartments and hotels if you book ahead.
If you want to avoid the naturist area its very easy but its the nicest place with the better resorts and beach. Swiming pools everywere in and out.
I I hope it helps:) You will not regreat it:)
www.playaazul.es
www.veranatura.es
check for "veraplaya"
check for "hotel la reina"
check for hotel mechico (apartments)
Pay attencion to shutle services in the area. Sometimes they can be more expensive then a taxi.

I think the best options are Benidorm or Salou. Both places are nice for a family like yours.

Benidorm is amazing at that time of year... although sometimes full of what some people might call 'chavs' it is actually a nice place to be, you meet some great people and I have spent some of the best days of my life in Benidorm.

There are plenty of things for the children and adults to do, and you can let the kids go off on their own without too much fear as it is easy to find your way around and the people are often friendly (although you should avoid the shops run by pushy chinese or eastern people, and their dodgy electronics!)

I've spent my last few holidays in the Magic Rock Gardens hotel. It is part of a chain of 13 hotels in which you can eat, drink and enjoy the entertainment as much/often as you like for free (this comes part of the all inclusive). http://hotelesmagic.ning.com/ if you're interested in learning more about the group.

Hope you find the holiday you're looking for :)
