Where in spain can i go thats not completely filled with english idiots, who wanna eat fish and chips!?

Me and my boyfriend would love to go to spain for a beach holiday, we want to go out and have fun, but not feel crowded with English people, and be in an area that has places like Spainsburys, The London Pub, British fish and chip shop.
Where would you recommend for a nice beach holiday, with bars etc, just not ones that i might aswell go to in England.

Thanks,

Costa del Azahar,Valencia,, The town of Peniscola is a historic area with great beaches, the main tourists are Spanish and french also italian a few english, but the feel is Spanish,,lots of familes and young people in july, august, very busy august,,If fed up of beach you can visit Valencia city 45mins away, great transport links ,you can fly into Barcelona (1-40min) Reus (50mins) Valencia(50mins) away.good bars and food lots of nice towns around.

now wait i know what your thinking...
its a tourist place right?
no, the suburbs are not. every where in spain is residential - you just have to look.
my aunt moved there 3 years ago and its very pretty.
i recommend a place called casta del fels
everyone is friendly and its good because you only find the occasional english person - so you wont feel alienated.
now the plus points of going to a suburb of a vibrant city is:
1) there are many beautiful tourist attrations like the
"la ramblas" its barcelonas most famous street, wwhere youll see markets and acts put on by the locals and La Pedrera - Casa Mila by Antonio Gaudi (artists house - beautiful !)
the Sagrada Familia building by Antonio Gaudi - giant temple been under construction since 1882 and they've still got another 30 to 80 years to go.
barcelona zoo - which owned the famous albino gorilla - unfortunately youv missed it though - it died last year i think :( i saw him - he was beautiful too ! but its unlike any british zoo ive been too !
also i counted about 6 museums when i was there also
2) you can pop into the main parts of barcelona for shopping - they are very clothes savvy!
or clubbing - its good for that too!
and 3) you can hide in the little resdiential bit where you set up camp.

the beach is only a five min train journey away (good because beaches usually attract us british) but as far as i could see it was all spanish folk

the bars are very nice when i was there i also took salsa classes - into the spirit eh? and that was right in the center of casta del fels

i would say its not really a suburb now come to thnk of it... its more like a little village but its quite modern - their variety of ice cream is to die for!

and one other thing - if you know french your in luck - casta del fels is catalan spanish which means theres a bit of french in there!

good luck and have fun wherever you end up!

I think, as long as you stay away from places like The Costa del Sol, and Tenerife, and Ibiza, you should be okay.

My suggestions: Costa de la Luz (atlantic side of Gibraltar) Northern Coast, surprisingly, Nerja...the only place I have heard of along the Costa del Sol that isn't overrun with Brits, and along from Tarragona to the French coast...all supposed to be quieter.

I was in Barcelona and Tarragona...I didn't talk to anyone, but they looked to be locals. Seemed familiar, and all. No fish and chips joints in Tarragona, that I saw.

Cadaqués is supposed to be really pretty. (north of Barcelona) but I'm not sure how much of a lying about sunbathing beach they have there.

Even on the costa del sol where I live, you CAN AVOID THEM IF YOU REALLY WANT TOO!!

I do, just keep out of the english bars, head only for the local tapas bars/restaurants, head in land if you have a hired chariot, don't go to the local markets if you don't want to..............its easy, BUT some of the best places are full of Brits, that is why they are the best for eating/drinking/entertainment, it all depends on what floats your boat!!

have a nice trip, resident of 26 years..........................PLUS, you still can't be the weather here regardless, and you can still holiday here cheaper than in the UK, regardless of what is being said in the press and on TV, a brandy 1.80E in my town and its BIG you don't have to wait for the brandy to drop to the bottom of the glass before you can see it! we are not all on the breadline here you know!

Try Galicia, but you may not have the best weather. Or Barcelona has a beach and is pretty cosmopolitan. I'd say somewhere like that is your best bet. Check out sites like this:
