I took my two boys, then 11 and 15, to Spain for about 10 days. The coast, except for being able to say, "Oh, look it's the Mediterranean," is like every tourist beach place. Crowded, overpriced and sandy.

They, and I, preferred Barcelona, where the tourist stop buses make it so easy to see things, They liked the aquarium. Give them shrill whistles, hide your money in a belt, and then take them to Las Ramblas. which must be seen--no description does it justice. Park Guell requires a lot of walking uphill to reach, even from the bus, but it's really interesting and very different from other parks.

We learned about each other, that we could survive a no-AC car in August, having my passport and credit cards stolen, that mom knew a lot about European history, the Bible and Greek mythology (almost a requirement to enjoy art museums), that the boys could entertain each other when they were the only English speakers around. That was an important part of the trip--strengthening family relationships.

This isn't exactly what you asked, but once I got started, it just flowed.

Holidaying in May and June is ideal here on the west side of Malaga on the costa del sol southern Spain and base my family in the touris town of Fuengirola With its 7 kilometer of clean sandy beaches, safe town with good shopping facilities and a rail system that's cheap for families who wish to visit Malaga city and other costal towns like Benalmadena with its beautiful harbor "sea world " and "Tivoli world" park, shows and attractions. The weather is nice and warm normally not to hot, but enough for all to take a great tan back home.

I know you asked for places in spain, but have you thought about the algarve in portugal. there is lots of different resorts there and i think its a great place for kids. I have been going there since i was seven and now i am in my 20's and go on holiday there with my own kids.

As suggested previously, Salou. I have been to Salou around 20 times over the last 15 years, most of these visits with my children. My girls love the place, always something for them to do and very family friendly. Port Aventura is always the highlight of the holiday, we go there twice a year and never tire of it. Check out www.salou.co.uk, it gives lots of really useful information about the resort and there is a message board where you can post questions, the locals and tourists will always respond and help you in any way they can. Hope you have a great holiday wherever you choose!

Hi Timee,

I can only advise on Madrid and will admit its only good for three or four days. See more here for dedicated kids activities: http://www.madrid-guide-spain.com/madrid-kids.html

I took my brother to an all inclusive theme resort in Benidorm as a package deal when he was 10 and he loved it. "Magic Excalibur"

benalmadena on the costa del sol ....it has a good beach, sea world, cable cars up the mountain where they do bird of pray/horse shows, tivoli world which is a theme adventure park plus do live shows,Paloma park which is beautiful ducks, rabbits, run freely for you to feed,a dolphin/shark park, also nearby is a aqua park and zoo so lots to do

Anywhere on the Costa del Sol is good for kids at that time of year, there is loads for them to do apart from just the beach.
If you go to the western end you also have Gibraltar and I am sure they will enjoy visiting the barbary apes and St. Michale's caves.

These links will give you some ideas I hope:-

I can only endorse what 'Peter A' and 'Lynn C' suggested.

salou. great resort. although you should really be looking this up rather than just asking someone on here.

I've never been to Spain before but I think somewhere near a beach is always good.

Here's a site that has lots of places listed in Spain.

http://www.therightresort.com/region-selection/spain.php

Just click on where you want to go & it's got lots of villas, apartments & hotels to book direct with the owner.

Hope this helps!!

Whipass Chick
Salou and you can go to PortAventura for the day

I strongly reccommend that you go Catalonia providence. Explore barcelona but the provendince has other places such as Sitges,Terragona to the south where one can find Roman ruins and to the north of Barcelona go to Girona. Here u will find medival ruins which mixed with the comptempery. Girona and Terragona were the most interesting.

I live near Nerja on the Costa Del Sol. It is a beach resort that has retained the feel of typical Spanish town. The area around Nerja is stunning. Most of the beaches are great for kids. The beaches have all been awarded a blue flag. Nerja is about an hour east of Malaga airport. It has wonderful bars and restaurants. Remember, in Spain children are encouraged to go out at night with their parents. On a Saturday evening you will see whole Spanish families out enjoying a meal with their children, even quite late at night.
