I've been there twice - definitely worth the trip!!! But the cheapest option by far depends on where you are coming from and if you want a day trip or a package family holiday. When in Spain you are most likely based in Barcelona or Valencia (both are the same distances to Portaventura), and then you can buy a ticket AT THE TRAIN STATION (at the normal ticket windows) on the day itself (you don't book in advance) and it's a return direct train with full-day entrance to the theme park included. This special ticket also gives you several "credits" on the ticket that let you skip the queues of the rides - extremely useful during the coming summer peak. I think it was only €35 for an adult ticket, which if you make a day of it from Barcelona/Valencia (get an early train there, and the last one out) makes it amazing value for money. I went on all the rides several times all day long. Unfortunately eating within the park can be expensive unless you just have small snacks.
The price in British pounds quoted in the message above this one definitely does not apply now. And from the website given before that I see that you can get a 3-day pass for €58.50, but one entire day is really all you would need to cover all the rides, depending on if you go as a family or group of friends. What is not mentioned is that that 3-day pass may be cheap, but the hotels close to the resort are not!! Spanish tourism can be a bit exploitive at times and have plenty of websites giving a "guiri" (foreign tourist) price, whereas a less advertised option is used by the locals. The train ticket worked for me 10 months ago and a few years ago!!
Hope that helps, best of luck!

We bought ours from Lunn Poly (Thomson) before we went and we paid about £20 a ticket and it was a 14 day pass. That was about 5 years ago though!

Hiya, try 365tickets. I've bought tickets from them before - they're trustworthy and do tickets cheaper http://www.365tickets.com/prodhubs.cfm?productid=72
