Brasil! Love my country. I lived at a small town called Porto Alegre for ten years. My hole childhood. But I strongly recomend to go to north. Like Bahia and Recife. It's more calm and safe. At the central cities (like Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo), it's less safe. I've never went to Spain, but I bet it is great too.
Have a Nice Vacation!
Edit: JORIE F, Brazil in portuguese IS Brasil |

Do you speak Spanish or Portuguese? If you speak Spanish, Spain is the place to go. If you speak Portuguese, then head for Brasil. If you don't speak either, you'll probably do better in Spain, as they have more English-speaking tourists there and you will have a better chance of finding someone who can help you with language problems. There is a lot of English spoken in Rio de Janiero, but that is such a Europeanized city that it won't really give you a glimpse of Brasil. |

Spain is Europe. The trains are excellent, the rule of law holds pretty well.
Brazil is Brazil. Everyone is wild and crazy all the time. Crime is a serious problem in Rio or Sao Paulo.
If you want a sane vacation with lots to see and an exciting night scene, the I'd say choose Spain.
If you want a wild time with no holds barred, it's Brazil, baby! |

Jorie please note that Brazil is spelled Brasil in Brazil.
First question do you speak any Spanish or Portuguese/
That can influence a choice.
I personally prefer Brazil, because it has the longest coast line in the World, the Music is great, the people mix and are friendly, yes there is a danger of crime , but thats due to the extreme poverty in Brazil, but that can also mean , food and Hotels are cheap outside major tourist places like Rio.There is a lot of crime in Spain as well , especially in cities like Madrid, where you have to be careful , in certain districts.
But the View in Rio is Marvellous.
Boa Sorte! |
