Okay so far all these answers are terrible. You will want to stay near the center. I dont know where you are from but in Mardid the clubs dont open until the bars close, the bars close at about 2 am. Okay the bars are all very cool. I have noticed that in Chueca there are many more trendy cool bars, (there are so many to choose from I cant give you just one) they are around every corner, literally. You can take the subway and get on in "Chueca." Chueca is a gay district, but gays arnt violent. There are also some clubs around the "Sol" area, but its pretty touristy and somewhat expensive, but you will find a club/bar. If I were you I would try to hang out near Gran Via, Chueca, and Sol, everything in this area is full of people and pretty safe. When you start getting into places like Barrio Los Angeles then its dnagerous. Once you find a bar you can drink till 2 am. By that time you will meet someone who can take you to a club. I wouldnt go to a club by myself, it can be somewhat overwhelming. Stay in the clubs within the city, and try not to go to any too far out. Madrid is a pretty safe and cool city, you will meet all kinds of people, you must there are 8 million people living here. No need to buy a newspaper, since all the clubs are just right around the corner. Chueca although gay has the highest concentration of bars and clubs per square mile in madrid. |

Pick up a Time Out magazine or any other free nightlife newspaper when you get there. There will be lots of listings. |
