Where to go in Spain that is nice?

Me and my girlfriend want to visit Spain. We will probably spend most of our time walking and exploring so we want somewhere that has a nice, safe ambients with a nice buzz. We also would like to be by the sea but we dont want it to be tacky. Has to be Spanish.

Almost any place is good for walking around. The larger cities have metros, almost all cities have some sort of bus system.

Taxis are there, but generally, as you would expect, pricey.

Tarragona was nice, CadaquƩs is a town I still have to explore. Barcelona, BIG city, but nice. Valencia, bigger city, with a nice, new esplanade by the seaside. If you don't want tacky, you should probably stay away from most of the Costa del Sol. A lot of people find that tacky, but I hear Nerja is still very atmospheric.

I'm not sure what you mean by buzz.

Lots of places along the northern coast, as well.
San SebastiƔn, Santander, Oviedo, All of Galicia. I don't know those places, myself, but people are always touting them, too.

The thing is, anyone who has been anywhere, and had a good time, is going to recommend it, sometimes as the best place ever! (and so will you.)

Have a fun trip!

San Sebastian fits your criteria, look it up! Although it is pretty expensive there, it is certainly not tacky!

i'd suggest you galicia (in the north-west): there you can find mountains, forests, unspoilt and ancient villages and the seaside of course. anyway, whatever place you'll go for, it will be a nice experience.

I have been to northern Spain (Galicia) in the mountains and can tell you that it is the most beautiful place that I have ever been. I took hikes every day, often through fields (the locals didn't mind, I even had conversations with many of the farmers that i met) and came across old stone ruins and small villages. The views from the tops of the mountains were fantastic, however, it is very rural, so if that's not to your liking, go south, but if you like hiking, Galicia is great.

Hi, why don't you try the sierra in Cadiz, Spain.
You can stay in several different villages and just chill out. Look at Grazelma, El Bosque, Olivar, Medina Sidonia.
They are a bit off the beaten track, but that's what makes them so nice.
This website should help you.

http://www.tugasa.com/

To get there you fly to either Jerez or Malaga if your further south.

If you don't fancy the mountains try Los CaƱos de la Meca it isn't your typical spanish tourist spot. It's well known to the spanish themselves & also seen as a bit of a surfers paradise. You get all sorts there from the surfers to the well to do spanish. Many young people go there to camp out on the beach or at the camping site there. It's a bit out of the way so you don't have all the mod cons of the Costa del Sol / Luz but that's part of it's charm.
A lot of spanish who go there normally own something there so there aren't too many hotels to choose from. You probably need to hire a car and it might be considered a bit basic for your normal tourist but the beaches make up for that. Plus your close to Barbate & Tarifa.

Also think about the Costa Del Luz. Check out Rota in Cadiz and look up the Hotel Playa de la Luz there. You might be surprised. You fly to Jerez to get there.

There are more some more hotels in Rota, Chipiona,Conil & Chiclana, all have a lively night life!

Puerto Santa Maria has some lovely hotels so do check it out before you dismiss it.
You should check out hotels in Tarifa,CaƱos de la Meca and Barbate for any special offers.

Good luck

Estepona (whatever way it is spelt) It is on the Costa Del Sol and is one of the few coastal towns that has kept it's Spanish identity with not so many Brits living there
