It really depends on how much time you plan to spend in Spain. If you only have one week that'll limit the number of things/cities you can see. If you have a month, well, you'll see more of course.
If you had all the time in the world you could visit Spain's 4 corners from Green Galicia across to Asturias and Cantabria, into the Basque Country, over to Catalunya and Barcelona, down the Mediterranean coast to Tarragona and Valencia all the way to the Costa del Sol and then over to Cadiz. Inland you'd visit Seville, Granada, Cordoba, Madrid, Salamanca, Toledo, Segovia, Bilbao, Zaragoza, Leon, and on and on ... and on and on...

The obvious place to go for a lot of people is the south and east coasts, but if you really want to feel that you are in a different country then try northern spain. Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria. |

When traveling to Spain, be prepared to indulge in a variety of culture & traditions. With its mnay regions, each with its different government & ways of doing things, travelers to Spain wil sure be treated to a plethora of rich sights, sounds & experiences.

Next time I go, I'm going to concentrate on the northern half of the country.
What do you want to get out of the trip? There is so much to see, so many places, so many great people, festivals, foods, souvenirs/crafts! You need to be a tiny bit more specific.
If you want culture, history and all that is in the Capital...go to Madrid. If you want cosmopolitan, modern/and historic, mix with French, and all the modern artists...you go to Cataluña and Barcelona (the capital of Cat.)
If you want traditional Spain full of flamenco and moorish influence and soaring cathedarals, and ladies with fans, etc. Go to AndalucĂa, but stay away from the actual coast.
If all you want is beaches and sun and sand and clubs, there are tons of such cities along the coasts of the Mediterranean, and in the Islands.
Ibiza (an island in the Med.) is the undisputed clubbing capital of Europe these days.

The South of Spain is the best, I recommend to you to go to Cadiz because has a few very good beaches and assurance that you like much.
