New Investor

Where to live in Spain?

Myself and one other are looking to move to Spain in the near future. We are not exactly rich,so are looking at an area which has reasonable house prices (no mortgages, paying outright with the money from our 2 bedroom house here) and somewhere fairly close to the coast give or take 5/10 miles.Naturally we would prefer to be in a nice city or town to be close to a job and local amentities. Was looking more at the North. Any ideas?

I would try Galicia (which is a region). The capital of it is Santiago de Compostela which is a pilgrimage destination. It's really close to the ocean and it has really good seafood.
But do take caution, people there speak Galician more commonly than Spanish. It's pretty similar to Spanish but more Portuguese.
It's a really nice place to live overall. My aunt lives there. Santiago de Compostela is a very cool city, and while it's very old, most of its inhabitants are pretty young.

I'm curious where "here" is. If you are in UK, you could probably do it. If you are from the US, then you might run into more problems.

Your requirements sound like you need a place on the outskirts of a city, not right in, which would be less expensive, in most cities. I'm sorry, I don't know the North terribly well, but you might investigate San Sebastian, Bilbao, Oviedo, Santander, and the areas around those cities.

Personally, I would love to settle in one of those little fishing villages NOT near any of the cities. You could try that. You could really mix in with the real people that way.
