Where to stay in Sevilla, Spain and the best way to get there? |
Me and my friend are heading to Europe this summer for about 3 weeks and want to spend the first week in Spain. Would it be easiest to fly into Madrid and then fly out to Sevilla or would it be just as easy to take a train? Also if anyone has any suggestions on a cheap hotel or hostel to stay in that is not too dingy that would be really great! I know RyanAir has cheap flights but they seem limited, is there maybe another airline we can trust to fly us out cheaply?
We have both been abroad before and I have been to Spain but never Seville so if you have any tips about the area please let me know! Also if there are any great restaurants/sights/museums/bars/clubs that are must sees please share! Additional Details Oh we are flying out of Houston...don't know if that means anything but that is where we are coming from....but don't worry we aren't going to arrive in our cowboy hats. |

You don't think Houston will have a problem with you not being there,eh?Haha....Your best bet is to fly to Madrid. That's where you'll get the best fares over the pond. Get to Seville on the super-fast AVE train, and see the countryside on the way...quicker and cheaper than flying, counting from city center to city center. Madridis is spot-on...Seville is a heat-trap,and while it's still my favourite city in Spain,it can get quite uncomfortable in the summer if you don't have somewhere to cool down. There is a huge choice of hotels, guest houses,self-catering,whatever you want. The link below is the prime source for anything in Andalucia...it's a very good site which got the Andalucia Business award a short while ago. Going to 'Home page/Destinations will show you all the places. Look up the places below on the list....each of them is wonderful. The really great time to visit Seville is two weeks after Easter when the fabulous spring fair is on...Feria de Abril. However, there's still a lot to see and do in Seville at any time of the year....it's a wonderful and beautiful city. If you read the links to other Seville/Spain Q's I've ansered recently, you can get an idea of where you can travel to easily from Seville and a bit about the city itself....Granada,Cordoba,Arcos de la Frontera,Cadiz, Jerez, are all easily reachable and each has it's own wonders....Oh!...Bring the hat...mighty useful in Spain in the summer...a big wide-brimmed cowboy hat is ideal, for just the same reason you want 'em in Houston or out on the range....that sun is bad without one....I've even seen Japanese visitors there with cowboy hats...Seville is a fun city...it's friendly,warm-hearted.and a joy to be in. Have a real party...with a real hat....it's wonderful there!....There is a Museum of Flamenco Dance which is well worth a visit. It's a performance place as well as a museum. http://www.flamencomuseum.com/ .. Now for an inside tip...secret...BAR PEREGIL...it's a few minute's walk from Plaza de Encarnation....Senor Peregil was a profferesionalll(after a couple of his beers) Flamenco singer...his bar is fab for a night out....opens around 9.30pm till early morning...people come in and play or sing Flamenco, and sometimes he'll pop around the front of the bar and join in...at 70+ he's got a powerful voice....it's just a bar,no admission fee...one of a few in Seville for a spontaneous gig.....Triana,over the Triana Bridge is great...trendy bars, flamenco, great eating places. Santa Cruz is full of narrow streets and passages, loads of bars, and great by day or night. When you see the sun rise through the bottom of the glass, you might still find a bar open...serving breakfast with another beer....take it easy. There's lots to do in the daytime...loads of sights are on the Andalucia link...you'll find plenty more as you get around. T |

I have to tell you.......Sevilla in the summer can reach up to 40 degrees C most days. Staying in a cheap hostel is not going to be your best move, you need to find a place that has fully functioning air conditioning, otherwise things could be pretty uncomfortable for you.
My advice to you would be to fly to Madrid, with either RyanAir or Easy Jet but i live in the UK, so im not sure what airlines fly from the US to Spain. Then take the AVE to Seville from Madrid. It's a high speed train that takes approx. 2.5hours, and its a very popular way to travel and in most cases cheaper too.
Both cities are excellent however Sevilla for me is one of the nicest in the world. You will have a great time there if you have any other questions, feel free to email me at Ceeb101@hotmail.co.uk

go to Sevilla5.com
That idream site has absolutely NOTHING.
Sevilla5 has tons of great location lodging, what to do, where to eat and shop, and great photos of it all, that will make you really want to go!
Really, I can give you tons on Sevilla, but that's a great place to start.
We stayed at the apartments on c/Arfe...REALLY perfect location, and really nice little places! Not terribly expensive, either. |
