Which Spanish city is more notorious for pickpocketing, Madrid or Barcelona?

Oh, Barcelona! It's one of the top cities in the world!

Just keep alert, keep your hands and eyes where you are protecting your valuables, and you should be okay.

Keep duplicates of your credit cards, and keep them in different places. If you can have two or more, put them in different pockets. Don't carry a lot of cash, and if it isn't necessary to have it, don't carry it at all. (you know, like the stuff you bought this morning, if you can take it back to your room, do so.)

I'm afraid, Barcelona, but except the pickpockets it's probably one of the best cities in the whole world!

BarÃ§a ... My question would get delited if I said the real reason... but it has somthing to do with being a Multi-Cultrial city... I'm not saying it is just the immigrants that do it... but in my local City - Pamplona

it has very low crime... San FermÃn and the tourists come... and you have to lock everything up... =/

I've been to Madrid many times... but only to the shopping district... I've never had anything stolen... but I HAVE Â´lostÂ´ my mobile on the BarÃ§a Metro... I think it is more than bad luck !

Absolutely Barcelona, it's notorious for thieves. I've been to 33 different countries on every inhabited continent except Asia (many with terrible reputations for crime), and I consider myself pretty self-aware. The ONLY place I've ever had anything stolen was in Barcelona, down at Placa Catalunya.

As much as I hate to say it... that would be Barcelona.. because it is a PORT CITY and Madrid is not.

All of Spain is having problems though... too many undesirable illegal aliens from Africa.. too many people in the cities with too much poverty and NOW too LITTLE WATER because Spain is being hit harder with the drouth than any of the other European countries.

That's absolutely nonsense. There are poor people on Barcelona or Madrid like there are in Rome, Paris or New York.

The drought last year affected Barcelona and the rest of Catalonia but it's OVER now, as it rained a lot so there were no water restrictions.

Both cities are notorious for pickpocketing: many illegal immigrant and a lot of tourists. Those pickpockets profit from naive, careless or drunken tourists.
