Castellano is the official landguage of Spain. ( Castellano is the word for Spanish here in Spain). there are other regions that have dialects such as in Catalunya where Catalan is Spoken. and The Basque Country where Euskal is Spoken.. Valencia where Valenciano is spoken and Galicia where Gallego is Spoken.
They are spoken in each region named But the official Landguage of Spain is Castellano.. ( the regions above are Bilingual )..

Take care..

The official language in Spain is Spanish or Castellano (castilian), the two words mean the same.
Catalán, vasco and gallego are also official languages in Cataluña, Pais Vasco and Galicia respectively.
That's an objective answer without any political influence.
Greetings from Ibiza!!

Español (Spanish) and Castellano (Castilian).
Some consider Español to be innaccurate because the country also speaks Catalán, Gallego, Vasco, etc., and Castellano means from the region of Castilla.

by the constitution, castellano (Spanish) and then there are 3 co-official languages... galicia has gallego, pais vasco has vasco (or euskera) and in cataluna they have Catalan........ just read the constitution

PS- other people should look into their facts better..... Portuguese geezzzzz wrong country

Dear, the official language in Castellano, spoken in all of Spain.
In the northwestern corner they have as second language Gallego, which is a bit similar to Portuges. In the three provinces from the French border at Irun-Hendaya at the bay of Biscaya they speak Euskadi/Basque. From the French border at the mediterranean to a bit south of Ebro river Catalan is spoken in the provinces of Girona, Lleida, Barcelona and Tarragona (this is called Cataluña). To the south, in the provinces of Castelló de la Plana, Valencia and Alicante they speak Valenciano, and last the Balearic Islands speak Mallorquin. But: Castellano (Spanish) is understood everywhere, except by the English living here.

up until today there is only one official language recognised, which you can say is "español" or "castellano".

Castellano o Español. Castillian or Spanish.

2 names for the same language.

That's a loaded question.

Many would say that Spanish is the official language of Spain, but in Cataluna they speak Catalan. In the Northwest region, they speak Basque.

Both the basque country and cataluna regard themselves as seperate states, and their own language is "official" to them.

Spanish or Espanol ( with an accent over the n). castelliano
the others are dialects

In the northern part of Spain they speak Catalan.

The two names of the official language of Spain are : Euskera and Castilian.

EUSKERA

El Euskera, or the Basque language, is spoken in the northern central area of Spain (where the Pyrennes meet the Cantabrian Sea) and it is nowadays written with Latin alphabet.

There are about 600,000 speakers in the north of Spain, the entire province of Guipúzcoa, + the provinces of Vizcaya + Navarra + some areas in Alava. However, Basque is not only spoken in Spain, you will also find Basque people in the French Atlantic Pyrenees (approx. 100,000 speakers).

Since 1982, Euskera is the official language of the Basque provinces together with Castillian.

CASTILIAN

Known around the world as Spanish, it is the official language of the country as it is stipulated in the Article 3 of the Spanish Constitution. All Spaniards have the duty to know it and the right to use it.

Castillian is also spoken in many countries around the globe, a language spoken by 350 million people.
