Which museum should I go to, Reina Sofia or Thyssen?

I am currently in Madrid. If you had to go to only one, which on would you pick and why? I have already seen Prado.

It's a question of personal preference really. Reina Sofia is more modern art, and the Thyssen is more traditional but with a huge variety. Personally I prefer the Thyssen. It also has a really good restaurant just outside the exit - great for lunch!

They're both excellent. The Thyssen-Bornemisza museum has a more varied collection, and a good selection of modern art, though it's not all modern. The pre-modern collection is not as good as the Prado's.

The Reina Sofia is entirely modern (or nearly so), and has the better collection of Spanish modern artists. Miro and Picasso feature prominently, with Guernica being a painting that is much better experienced in person than in photographs (similar in my mind Las Meninas - the photos don't do it justice).

If I had to choose one, I would choose the Reina Sofia, for the reason it has Guernica and a more unique collection of art. Of course all paintings are unique, but you will see painting of the type you see in the Thyssen-Bornemisza in other cities. But if you're looking for more variety, you may want to go the Thyssen-Bornemisza. Either way, have fun.

Me? I tried like the devil to get to the Reina Sofía...I have a thing about Guernica, so...obvious for me. I kept hitting it as they were closing the doors! :(
