Valencia is more the same as Sevilla. While Valencia is a modern city( however have old town... ) Sevilla is more a visit touristic, over old building.
Im from the north of Spain , so I dont know every thing about the south...but I think that Sevilla is too much dangerous than Valencia...so...I''d go to Valencia because, Is the city of the arts and the science, ( Sevilla is the gold city ).
In the future, if you come back to spain, you have to know the north of Spain, is like south france, but also is better, and are diferent cityes...are so,so,so,so diferent as mediterranean, that you dont think that you are in spain( If you think that spain is like Alicante , Valencia.. ) |

You would be mental to go to Seville in June/July/August as far too hot there, even the Spanish leave in August for cooler climes, Valencia is nice but is not a tourist resort.
Consider flying into Alicante and exploring the Costa Blanca, there are places like Gandia, south of Valencia which has absolutley wonderful beaches and has the best of both worlds in that it has great bars and restuarants, but the old traditional part of town is accessible, so you get to see real Spain.
Calpe, Denia, Altea, Moraira and Javea are all nice places along the coast and far more upmarket to places like Benidorm, there will be hotels and bed & breakfast accomodations available in all those places, just Google them and you'll find loads of websites about them |

I live here in Spain. Seville is a much prettier city than Valencia. But the heat in both will be oppressive. September is a nice month in Spain. The heat is more bearable and the sea and pools are still warm. 'Real Spain' has some of the most beautiful scenery. Inland there are big reservoirs with amazing mountain scenery surrounding them and when the blossom is out its truly beautiful to see on the mountains. It's not all beach and bars. Look at the paradors for Spain. These are converted castles, monastries, etc and in great locations. |

Summer is not an ideal time to visit Seville, a most beautiful city but as it is inland you will find the heat oppresive, spring or autumn are best.Valencia being on the coast is a much better bet, would stay in the beach resorts of Alicante and you can visit Valencia and do the sites then relax on the beach some of the time, you could fly into either airport and hire a car, there is plenty to see and do and you should get a sea breeze, do not write Seville off, leave it until another time when you can do that corner of Andalucia, Seville, Jerez Puerto Santa Maria etc etc etc |

Depends what you want to do on your hols. Seville is a beautiful city situated inland and well worth a visit, but maybe more for a sight seeing trip rather than a vacation in what someone has already pointed out, is the hottest part of the year. Temps can get over 40 C in the summer.
Valencia on the other hand has city attributes as well as being on the coast and a bit cooler at that time of the year.
But really, there are many wonderful places in Spain, it's a question of what you like to do and what time of the year you want to do it. If it's beaches you want then Valencia would be the obvious choice, but any of the Costas can offer you that.
Whichever you decide, enjoy....... |

Seville is a city, the capital of Andalucia, so probably would not suit your tastes. Been to Valencia years ago but it may have changed a bit since then but sounds like the best choice. Would recommend Seville for a short, autumn or spring break. |

Seville is a beautiful city with amazing history, great monuments, fantastic flamenco etc... but in July August will be outrageously hot... I mean really hot.
Valencia is on the coast so will be cooler, has a great old town, plus lot's of international students so great night life, lot's of funky bars in the old town (Carmen area), good beaches ...
I'd suggest a long weekend in Seville just to see the town and some flemenco shows and try some of the traditional crushed tomato sauce (because it's worth it), then head to Valencia for 10 days of sun, sand, and bar-hopping fun in the old town near the Plaza Mercado!
Hope that helps
