Who in the right mind likes bull fighting? |
Its so sick!!! Spanish people are wicked (well, the ones that like to watch it). I´ve just read about the vile things they do to the poor bull. They put pepper on its feet, keep it awake all night, put things in its eyes to blind it, torment it and drug it, so by the time it goes out, it´s exhausted and can´t see properly. Stab it, then they severe it´s neck artery, so they leave it invalid, but it´s still alive when they cut the tail and ears off. And the horses also get stabbed by the bulls horns. The cape is only to cover up the huge gashes that get ripped into its skin.
Now tell me, would you go and watch that? And would you not go to one of them proud bull fighters and cut his balls off and feed them to him??? I would |

Bull Fighting is by no means fair, and it is pretty cruel, but you've just gotta accept is as part of Spanish culture. I mean, they've been doing it for years!
Also, is less about the killing of the bull, and more about the spectacle of it, and the theatrics. It is annoying that the matadors get loads of kudos for effectively killing an almost dead bull, but I think for the Spaniards, it's all about the show. |

I believe it is a very cruel sport and so do many people where I live here in Spain. You should modify your language and try not to insult people whilst making a point.
There are many bloodsports around the world and I detest them all. Now, tell us where you live and we'll have a go about your countries bloodsports!!
Edit; Bullfighting doesn't take place over all of Spain, there are just a few provinces now, but it is dying out.
I understand peoples concerns about bullfighting, but do you ever think of the cruelty in the world men impose on men, women & children. In many cases that is worse than bullfighting and that is NOT dying out: |

I agree, it is absolutely horrific. Unfortunately though it is part of Spanish Sport and they have been brought up with it, therefore they wont see anything wrong with this.
Take old sods that are racist for instance. My friends grandparents used to treat black people like crap. I know it's not exactly the same thing but my point is that when people have been brought up a certain way, they don't see anything wrong with it.
You will find that most Spanish people that watch this horrible sport are older. Eventually it will stop and people won't be able to do it due to animal rights.
You could say the same about the sport of hunting too you know. That makes us English horrible, as for years we hunted foxes and let dogs tear them to pieces. |

Sounds to me like you have been reading propaganda from the anti-bull-fighting people, full of lies, but then, I don't know anything for sure...just sounds like it...created specifically to elicit the reaction they have done in you.
That bull is hardly exhausted when it goes out. He has a lot of fight in him when they put him out in the arena. The horses wear a big, padded cover, and never get gored by the bulls. The cape doesn't cover anything...any huge gashes are actually clearly visible. And the bull dies out there on the field, before they cut anything off, or drag it off.
But to answer your title question, mostly only the older generation, and tourists who know of it as a cultural experience.
You really have to be able to look at it as the cultural pageant that it is, rather than the pain of a bull, which, btw, isn't exactly the brightest of creatures.
Admittedly not the most humane of sports, it still is a national thing, that some people, DO still enjoy, though it's dying out.
The fact is that humans, since before history, were taking the challenge of fighting with large animals, simply to test their mettle, and as a rite of passage into adulthood. It simply has taken on more importance, and therefore is taking much longer to die out in Spain than in other countries and cultures. Well, Spain has, in many ways, had a hard time keeping up with the rest of the world, throughout history...that isolated peninsula thing.
*Bob* Spain is actually so advanced that they make the US look backwards. And yes, they have indoor plumbing, AND toilet paper, there. |

As more people already said here, all of that you said about the pepper and the bull exhausted is not true.
Apart from the point that maybe can be considered a torture for the bull (I definitely don't agree), a bullfight is a fight between the man and the animal, and of course the bull can kill the bullfighter and it has already happen several times. Most bullfighters have more scars than a war veteran and is not true that the animal is defenceless.
Anyway, I'm Spanish, from Madrid, where the most important bullfighting ring, but I'm not a fan at all. I believe is part of our culture and is respectable for that. Most things people say about bullfightings are just exaggerations. I find worse the killing of seals just for the fur. At least a bullfight is fight where any of the contenders can die, and finally the dead bull is used for meal.
Next time you'd better get more information and give your opinions with true informations. |

I agree! Its very cruel! I don't see what they get out of it. Its a pathetic way to feel strong or what ever it is they feel when fighting the bull.

Hello
i am spanish and i can understand you say it is cruel, etc..,
i must say i have never gone to a bullfighting, BUT i respect the people who like it.
it is a tradition from IBERIAN civilization, before roman empire came to Iberian peninsula. these iberians have the bull (TORO) as a sacred animal and they killed it to "get its power" to show its greatness.
BULLS are grown up with the idea to use it to bullfighting, it is treated very well and grown up in special instalations.it is a "king" as old iberians thought.
they are the best bulls in the world, around 600 kgs and wild.
please respect traditions of other countries. I am sure your countries has traditions, and this traditions could be strange for other people but not for you.
bye |

Sorry but don't believe everything you read, most of what you have quoted here is simply not true. Never have I heard of the pepper, the keeping it awake all night, drug it etc. Also the horses are very very well padded that they do not get stuck by the horns.
However, this is a tradition in Spain that many people still love to watch, it's a tradition that will not die. (Unlike the bull) There simply is not enough objections for this to stop in Spain. I don't like to watch it either, only if the bull then gets the matador, that is well worth watching!
It is cruel, but what one country will allow another will not, it is tradition. |

Your last statement is weird. So it's cruel to do that to a bull, but not cruel to do that to a man?
You have just answered your own question. People, including you, are capable of doing cruel things. |

such a shame that yahoo answers gives people the opportunity to ask and answer questions, and then people come out with ill-informed nonsense.
where did you get your "facts"?
people in spain would go mad if they thought they were being cheated like this; the bull is honoured and reverred by people for whom this sport is part of their history and their culture. |

Personally, I don't care for bullfighting, but you have to also consider the reason why they do it. It is after all, part of their culture, and has long dated it's origins and history back to Greek and Roman times, and even stretching back towards the pre-historic times. The act of killing the bull is a symbolism for domination of man over beast, and the bull is tied religiously as "sacrifice for divine justice". I'm not Spanish myself, but I can see how the killing of the bull may disgust outsiders. I'm neutral in the matter of whether they should stop it, because it has been in their culture's history for hundreds of years. Maybe if they killed the bull in a more "humane" way, it may be alright with other people. |

YA is Rubbish. I Have Left !

I love it...the atmosphere watching man against beast. Nothing wrong with it. The animal does not go to waste after it as been killed in an ARTISTIC and GLORIOUS way it is then butchered. The skin goes towards leather goods also.
Sorry...no matter what you say, I still will go to a bull fight. Nothing wrong with it. It is GREAT FUN |

If someone did that in the USA, they would be handcuffed, taken to jail, charged with animal cruelty and sentenced/fined...repeat offenders would serve 1-5 years in the penetentary....where Bubba could bend them over and stick things in them!!!!
Spain is so very backward that one wonders if they even have indoor plumbing (or toilet paper)! |
