Why cockfighting in the Philippines and bull fighting in Mexico & Spain? Where are the animal rights activists

and why aren't they on the job in these bloodthirsty countries?

I am from Spain and I absolutely despise bullfighting, I think it is the shame of my country.
How can torturing and killing a bull be a sport? Or even worse, culture?

Actually there is a lot of cockfighting in Mexico!!!

I don't know about the Phillipines, but bullfighting has been going on for thousands of years in Spain, and they don't kill the bull in Mexico. You might as well become insensed at the Rodeos in the US, as well.

It's been a long, hard road getting the bullfight to be less of a cultural event in Spain, but it does seem to be winding down, though, after three thousand years or so, it is pretty deeply ingrained in the people's souls.

BTW we also have illegal dogfighting in the US. Some things are just REALLY difficult to fight. (no pun intended, really)

Most people who question bullfighting in Spain have never been to Spain. Whether you like it or not, it is for the Spanish people to decide. Every country I know has at least one bloodsport. Concentrate on your own country without getting involved in the culture of others.

You have to take into account that the culture is different in these countries. In Spain, when they fight a bull, they believe it is a form of respect. They only fight the strongest ones, it is sort of like "survival of the fittest". And in most cases if the bull lasts for a certain set amount of time without dying, he is let free and never enters the bull ring again. I know you probably don't like this answer, I am a huge lover of animals and had a problem with bullfighting myself, but I lived in Spain for the summer and I had several people explain to me that it is not how we view it at all over there. Their culture is just different. I still don't like it, but I respect it.

grrrrrrroooooooooovy
Amanda dont fool yourself. The bulls are indeed occasionally allowed to leave the ring alive if they have "fought" bravely, but they almost never survive because they have already been so badly injured. Its completely barbaric.

There are pther styles of bull fighting where the bull isnt harmed at all but the most popular one in spain is the one where the bulls are tortured.
