It all started simply as a way of transporting the bulls from their corrals in the outskirts of the town/city to the city center's bullring for that day's bullfight and they had to walk (or run) them through the streets to get them there.

Time passed and some silly people decided it might be fun to run with them - OR FROM THEM!

Pamplona hosts the most famous bull-run but they also do it in San Sebastián de los Reyes and one or two other (smaller) places in Spain.

They only do so for a week in July, and only in Pamplona.

It's part of the festival of San Fermín. There are festivals all over Spain at various times of the year. Every city has a festival to call their own. Every festival has a different flavor than the others.

It's a challenge to be able to keep up with these incredibly large and virile animals, (it has a lot to do with machismo and the bullfighting, too).

The whole thing became much more popular among Americans when Hemingway wrote about it in a couple of his novels. He was extremely well versed in all things regarding Spain and the bulls and bullfighting. He was one of the few foreigners who has really come to understand the sport.

Dad's found yer scoo'er
It's a manhood thing. Personally I'd be more impressed if they did the same thing on the Freeway.

Mum of 2
Because they are simple in the head!
