Well, the British went to war with Argentina over the Falkland Island. Same situation as Gibraltar.

God only knows why someone would send men to die (258 British, 649 Argentine Killed) and have war ships sunk over a wind swept piece of rock covered in sheep droppings.

For less than the cost of HMS Sheffield that got sunk, Brittan could have relocated anyone who wanted to remain British and given them land holdings comparable to what they had on the Falkland Rocks.

No common sense when pride is involved.

Cant understand why they would want it; unless they want the Barbary Apes! Although the Rock is hollow so they could want it for storage.

This was posted on the typically spanish website on 25th Oct.

Gibraltar First Minister says the rock will never be Spanish
Peter Caruana insisted in Madrid that the citizens of the rock have the last word on any change in soverignty.

The Gibraltar First Minister, Peter Caruana, has said that the rock will never be Spanish territory, ‘not in reality and not in dreams’, if the citizens did not freely and voluntarily give their consent.

He said it was unacceptable and illegal for Spain to claim sovereignty over the rock, and such a change would not be understood by either the European Union, or allowed by the United Kingdom.

However Caruana denied any anti-Spanish sentiment among the Gibraltarians and said he wanted to see increased collaboration in areas such as the environment, naval safety, fiscal matters and border and police controls.

He said Spanish Foreign Minister, Miguel Angel Moratinos, would be welcome on the rock when he arrives to open the newly established Cervantes Institute.

Caruana’s comments have been widely reported in the Spanish press, not least because they were made to the press in Madrid. There can not be an 18th century solution to an 18th century question in the 21st century, he said.

Why would Spain want to go to war over such a small piece of land where the residents don't want Spanish rule. The Spanish have more sense and more important things to worry about.

Probably not, but what many people forget, Gibraltar need the goodwill of Spain to exist. The border between Gibraltar in Spain is one of the few borders in Europe where there is a custom post. If Spain closes the border, then Gibraltar can't function properly. It's in Gib's interest to have goodwill with Spain.
I'm British but now live in Spain. The last place I want to visit is Gibraltar.

no thanks, you can keep that shitty piece of rock full of monkeys (english and animals) for you if you feel better.

bye

Why would we want it? Its a dirty little piece of rock with some apes, would you want it seriously??

whats the point? we are all part of europe now anyway

✰jade✰
we would never, because for its size, its not worth it, i mean, what would we do with a piece of rock full of monkeys and old buildings ¿¿¿???

Salva
Gibraltar is only full of Spanish people that say they're British but they actually are not. They don't even can speak English decently!
We don't like false and insincere Spaniards in Spain! But it's in SPAIN. So please, give the son back to Mom! :)

I don't think that they would attempt it now that they have joined the EU, they have too much to lose if they are stupid enough to try.

Xabier
I don't think so. The UK would Invade with force no doubt
Also Gibraltans voted on if they wanted to become part of Spain, the VAST majorty said NO. I think it's purly symbolic... Gibraltar is not a RIch Money making place... so the loss of it & the gain too Spain would not make much diffrence if any to the main economy
All though it's a very nice place if you ever get the chance go-and visit the apes

If Spain did take Gibraltar with all it's army... we would problery be kicked out of the E.U & the U.N as well as being invaded by other counties... all though I could be wrong look at what happend with Russia and Georgia... No one has really interviended

No, we wouldn't do it. For several reasons, the main one being that we don't give a flying ***** about that s.hit hole of drug-dealers, money-laundering, gambling-ridden tarts.

What would happen if one day for some unknown reason the spanish army takes gibraltar?? Two options;

a) Britain foolishly dares to send the fleet with the obvious outcome: Sinking of the whole Royal Navy half-way to Gibraltar, by the Spanish Navy and Air force.
b) Nothing. Perhaps some diplomatic grudges going on at the UN.

Will British ever give it back to Spain? Cos it was Sain, you know?

Its all politics when you have done, the average person down here doesn't give a ,,,,,,,,,,,,, about it.
We have better things to think about!
But trust politicians they do everything they can to make the press/ruin your lives/cause trouble/etc., so once they step in who knows what will happen, but force very, very much doubt it.......just a lump of rock covered in apes and Moroccans, illegal money,it might have been important years ago...........................
