Yes, the E.U age is 18

But maybe %80 of all business still enforce the 16 rule. Just as around half of all bars, even the larger ones you can still smoke inside in.

A bar, you'll get served.
A supermarket usually you won't with-out I.D

But from experiance I know British Girls generally look older than they are.
and Girls get asked for I.D less.

Most non-touristy discotecas/night clubs you'll get into.
But if you go out looking British, half drunk to a discoteca they could ask for I.D

But as you'll see when your there, most places still have the 15 with a big red X in a circle... even though 18 is the age enforced by the E.U

So you'll have a higher chance of drinking in a bar, than a discoteca

The legal drinking age in Barcelona is 16 years

The Spaniards are not as strict as US about enforcing drinking age anyway.

Wish I could come with ;)

I'm sorry but Eric is a tool, and his answer could not be more wrong.

Spain is in the European Union which by law states the legal age of consuming alcohol is 18 years old.

Just like anywhere you go, you may get asked for I.D if you look too young, just because it's Barcelona makes no difference. It's whether or not you get lucky. You should be aware however that by Spanish law, you must carry I.D with you at ALL times. If you are stopped by an officer in the street and you can not produce I.D you will get a fine at least. So just keep it with you.

It's illegal!

Do you REALLY want to finish off your holiday in jail? Or paying off a ticket because you chose to break the law?
