Work in spain over summer? |
hello!
i am an irish 19 year old girl, my 20 year old also female friend and me really really really want to go work in spain for july and august 2009,
weve both been to spain a few times but just on holidays.
we also both have experience waitressing and doing bar work (and are both slim and attractive if i do say so myself ha) we are wondering how easy or difficult it would be to find bar/resteraunt/nightclub bar work in a touristy part of spain on teh coast, or the canary islands or somewhere??
since we are both eu citizens, would we need a visa?
would accomodation be difficult to find? (we wouldnt want a touristy apartement building, we dont need luxury, just a secure place to sleep!)
really what i want to know is has anyone here done this before? gone to work in spain for a summer without having any of the language??
i can speak french and irish though ;)

I think the best place for you girls to go is Ibiza. The bars and restaurants there really need staff in the summer because the population increases dramatically.
Since most people that frequent these are international tourists, English is more important than Spanish though, out of respect to the Spanish, I would just learn a few words that you may need to use just in case.
You don't need a visa. As European citizens, you can go and work in any country in Europe.
Don't worry about the NIE number thing. You may not need it for just a few month's work. No one is going to give you a contract.
You should start looking for accomodation now in an area with lots of bars as the island gets full up in the summer. Find an apartment or something that is being rented out.
In order to find work, I would take enough money to live for a week and go back if you have no joy and literally go to the places and ask if there is work. Some friends of mine did this last year and found work in one of the first places they asked.
Even though I find it a bit grotty compared to the rest of the island, San Antonio is probably the best place for you to head as it's where all the English speaking populace go out and there are loads of English and Irish bars where you won't ever need to speak anything else.
However, I do recommend exploring the rest of the island in your free time.
Take care and have fun! x |

don't bother there is no work you don't need a visa but the only work you will get is illegal if you want to work legally you need a nie number that takes 45 days to get bars are closing down for fun on the Costa's at the moment and any work that is going go to spanish as unlike the uk they tend to look after there own people |

There are no jobs here in Spain with nearly 3 million unemployed. Someone suggested bar work because of the extra tourists in summer. Well, if the pound keeps failing against the Euro, there might not be as many tourists. Besides, there will be plenty of excess labour from the locals. They will be entitled to the work if they can find it. |

Like Carol P said... we have almost 3 MILLION people who need jobs here - I am one of them xD
But on the basis that you can speak French & Irish ? Or English ..
We have alot of Irish in the Summer... and French visit mostly the Baleric islands.
You would need a NIF to work Legal... but it depends on how long you are staying it takes up to 45 days to get one. Ireland is in the E.U you can move here no Visa.. but you problery will only be here for around 45 days so you shouldn't really have to pay tax on your wage. I know a couple of bars in my Area [Navarra] that employ Romanians with out their NIF... so it's quite common
But I'd try and get a job before you come...or have more than enough money so that if you didn't find work you could still come and enjoy your self =) |

hi girls,
It will be quite easy for you both to find jobs in bars, espcially during the tourists season. They need english-speaking staff everywhere during this time of year, but you will also need to be able to use your spanish.
If you are looking for an apartment (or job or whatever), use the following site: www.loquo.com
also if u wanna learn spanish try the following site: www.estudiohispanico.com --> they sell courses all around spain, so maybe you could work and learn at the same time?
As you prolly know by now, you don´t need a visa within the EU (this includes the whole of spain)
Just make sure you guys take care of yourselves, because 2 attractive ladies amongst all those drunk tourists....well you know what i mean!
take care!
