Would you like Catalunya (Catalonia in English) to be independant?

It´s part of spain now.
I´m Catalan, and I would like this, also, it would help the Catalan economy and infrastructure, the trains often are delayed by power cuts, as they depend on the Madrid goverment.

Ah yes, Euskadi independant too! I´ve seen your name, Xabier around Yahoo. How come do you write in the English yahoo?

Yes, definitely, I'd like Catalonia to be an independent state withint the UE like Slovenia for example. I am Catalan too.

It is very explain to "guiris", but I always say that as long as Spain is not a real federal state, as long as the other official languages which are not Spanish (Catalan, Basque and Galician) are not felt by most Spaniards as their own cultural heriatage and as long as the central Goverment continues to steal us, I cannot feel Spanish at all.

As this situation will continue, it should be better to split up with Spain, like marriages which do not understand each other.

Nothing to say about Catalonia independence, in fact that's none of my business, but...why do you say Madrid governement?
Shouldn,'t you say Spain governement?

Neither me nor the rest of madrilenians have voted to the central governement being installed here.

There are 2 common misconceptions here. One is that an independant Catalan State would be better off "free" than integrated into Spain. Considering that the catalan economy strongly relies on the spanish market, just write off all the products, services and companies making business with the rest of the Spain and there you will have your "wealthy" Catalonia. Plus all foreign investement will obviously flee Catalonia right away.

Second misconception is that the catalan wealth and industry was built "in spite of Madrid, Spain and the central government". Actually is the other way round, Catalonia is wealthy because it predates the Spanish market. It was thanks to the startegic decission made by the succesive spanish governments to develop the region, particularly Barcelona, as a industrial hub back in the XIX century, and protecting it with heavy tariffs from foreign competition, that Catalonia experienced substantial growth and became wealthy. Leaving Spain won't work in the benefit of Catalonia, in fact, it may very well work in the benefit of Spain, as a stimulus to energize the economy elsewhere - West Andalucia, for example - and provide services and products for the inner market that Catalonia won't be allowed in anymore.

I'd rather Euskal Herria to be free...

I think you have as much local government as us... You can be rich, powerful inside Spain but never free

We need independance not only from Spain but the E.U

--- i could tell you i write in English because i'm Basque and English and Spanish are my 2nd languages ;) but it's a lie xD

It is because all the idiots in the Castellano version are from Méjico and report ALL my questions under "chatty"

At least in English version there ia more freedom and more people ^^, also i can earn MANY point's easily in Travel > Spain xD

Catalunya will never be an independent state.

Sad but true.

France will never give up their part of Catalunya and as to giving up Provence. Forget it!

Another problem is that state education in Catalunya is only in Catalan. THere is no teaching in the national language, Spanish.
This means that foreign companies avoid the Catalan speaking area like the plague. English teaching in state schools is rubbish. In my home area there is 13,5% unemployment.(Diari de Vilanova) This is an OBSENITY.
Personally, I feel that the personal cost of forcing everyone ,except the super rich who can afford private schools, to be educated in a minority language is morally wrong.

Catalunya is making the same mistakes it made before and during the civil war, and I'm afraid to say it is about to become a backwater like Albania.

I don't think Catalunya has ever been an independent nation like, say, Scotland.

I make no apologies, putting politics before the welfare of the people of Catalunya is wrong.
It is interesting that in the last elections in the Basque country, the Nationalists lost power and now the Lendakari is from the Partido Popular.

Catalunya will never be an independent country unless it teaches its children in a world language such as Spanish. I defend their right to be bilingual in Catalan but no more nor less.

VOTE POUM!

Cataluña (in Spanish) and the Paises Bascos have both been part of Spain for over 500 years.

To have that change would change the country!

No. I don't see why they need their independence. I think that Autonomy...each region has much more of the economy that they generate than they usde to get. They are allowed to maintain their cultures/languages. There is strength in society. Both Spain and the respective regions gain from being united.

Sure, Franco repressed them, but he is long gone now, and things are freer for these people...I think they should glory in the great country that they are a part of, as well, as their individual strengths.

Better together than seperate.

Spain Lover
Cataluña is a province of Spain, same as Andalusia, Extremadura, Murcia ... etc. and I hope it always will be. Spain is a beautiful country with different faces and traditions and I hope that the present Catalan Local Government will eventually get its feet back on the ground again.

In my opinion, Spain needs Cataluña and Cataluña needs Spain. By the way, Cataluña is beautiful and Catalan people are great!

Cheers!

I don't believe it should be independent, spain and catalonia are one in each other, although the lanuages are a bit different
