If they say "Mucho gusto" = "It's a pleasure to meet you," I always say "Igualmente" which means "Same here."

Instead of "Mucho gusto" many people will say "Encantado/a" ("Encantado" if the person speaking is male or "Encantada" is the person speaking is female) which literally means "Enchanted" or, really the same, "It's a pleasure to meet you."

this is my second year of spanish and mucho gusto means -nice to meet you, so think of what you would say, most like "oh the pleasure is all mine" and in spanish that is "el gusto es mio" so it would go
-mucho gusto
-el gusto es mio

after that you just start a normal conversation after meeting somebody like if youre meeting them for the first time, talk to them
just a few translations for you
good morning - buenos dias
good afternoon - buenas tardes
good night/evening - buenas noches
encantado(a) - delighted/pleased to meet you
igualmente - same here
como se llama - what's your name (we use usted form for this because your meeting them for the first time, unless of course its somebody your age like youth or younger than you, then you say "como te llamas")
me llamo -my name is
De donde es? - Where are you from? (again we use the usted form unless you're talking to someone around your age or younger than you)
Soy de - i am from

yea thats alll from the first chapter of last years spanish book
hope it helped =]

in tenerife it forms part of an answer.when eating out a waiter will ask after you finnish "le ha gustado la comida". did you enjoy your meal.your answer would be "mucho gusto" it was a great taste. but saying that in the hills above los chistianos, i met a spanish teacher from an english private school who found it very hard to converse with the locals.

The response to "Mucho gusto" is: "El gusto es mío." The pleasure is all mine.

It's the only truly proper response.

Some people will say "Igualmente".

The light is lost.
