An absolutly beautiful place to go is Lauterbrunnen, not far from Interlaken. It is a great place to be if you want to get to the mountains or even just for the scenery. The railway station and cableway give quick access to the Schilthorn Piz Gloria, Jungfraujoch, Mürren, Wengen, Grindelwald and Interlaken. It has lots of hotels, I would recommend Hotel Horner which is run by a very nice young lady who looks after you loads. It has a usual array of shops and tourist attractions, is well equipped with public transport and is a very beautiful place.

They don't call it the "Valley Of 42 Waterfalls" for nothing!

Lake Lucerne is beautiful and has a lovely town. You can also travel on the Glacier Express which takes you up into the mountains. It was lovely.

So many places fit the bill. Interlaken (between lakes) is a favourite of mine. You can go up to the snow level by train/cable car. Travelling around by train is a good way to see the scenery.
