I did a tour of Swiss cities: Basel, Zurich, Lucerne, Bern, Lausanne, Geneve, and...
WOW they're all beautiful, clean, safe, fairly friendly, cool, and rather expensive, but really not as expensive as Paris or Rome. My room in Zurich was about $75. Trains are expensive, but I had a railpass that included Switz., so didn't have to pay. I went to a salad bar place where you pay by the pound/grams and I got a nice big plateful and it was about $21. I drank water and savored every morsel slowly.
Ask someone else about the beautiful mountains and skiing/hiking. I'm a city hiker.
Lucerne/Luzern and Zurich were my favorites as cities; Luci was so pretty and Zurich was very cool and urbane with beautiful architecture and a flea market by the lake.
I took a train from Lausanne to Chamonix, France. I had to change trains a few times, but one went right through alpine farms and forests. That train ride was unforgettable.
In Lausanne go to the Musee de l'Art Brut, an exhibit of art done by psychos, criminals, and mentally "ill". It's the coolest art museum i ever visited.

Well, I only really know Geneva as I was born there and spent my early childhood there until my immediate family and myself all emigrated to Eastern Canada in the mid seventies but I have been all over the country on trips with my relatives, especially in the mountains (Swiss Alps) in order to get fresh air and exercise through hiking & skiing.

Switzerland is probably one of the most beautiful country in the world, if not the most beautiful, with a gorgeous nature, exquisite scenery everywhere you go, amazing architecture & urban design, extremely clean environment & living, not to mention an excellent economy!

But don't take my word for it!

P.S. Switzerland is an extremely safe country to live in and to visit with amazingly low, almost non-existent, crime & unemployment rates so, by all means, go on your trip and enjoy it because I know for a fact that you will have the time of your life over there, trust me! After all, I'm a native, remember? Take care honey & enjoy your vacation!

1) Bring a GPS (global positioning system) that is programmed for Europe.
2) If you travel on a plane while in Europe try Ryanair.com cheap flights. Hostels are great in Interlocken.
3) There is Skydiving, iceclimbing, parasailing, caving, canyoning (jumping from level to level down waterfalls and steams.
4) Enjoy yourself

You can still get a place to sleep, shower and all for under 15 dollars a night. You can eat meals for under 10 dollars a meal. stay at guest houses or hostals and eat in the chain store restraunts, Like a Migro or Co-op restraunt

Switzerland is not cheap! Although you may get away with some hotel deals in the shoulder season like Spring or Fall. I've been to Zermatt, Luzern, Geneva and the most beautiful I think is Lauterbruennen south of Interlaken. There you can go to the many Alpine villages like Gridelwald, Gimmelwald and Muerren. There are many waterfalls that cascade off the glacier sculpted granite walls on each side of the valley of Lauterbruennen. You can take various cable cars and trams. Especially nice is up to the Jungfraujoch. There you can see a huge mountain face with glaciers! It's very beautiful. I hiked one way from Grindelwald to the Jungraujoch halfway point which is Kleine Sheidegg. I had a most amazing time. When I took the cable car to Muerren there were a few folksy entertainers with accordian, singing and dancing with native costumes. Even yodeling, made for a nice atmosphere. There was a vendor selling delicious sausages with beer. Most of Switzerland is nice but I really recommend the Lauterbruennental, especially if you're into nature!

This is a trip that everyone has to make, it is heaven on earth. Very small country, its not cheap. The flight there will cost you about a thousand , and roughly figure a hundred bucks a day per person for hotel, food etc. Most of the hotels R rather small, and try to avoid the 5stars, choose a chalet instead. So charming! Travel is very easy and user friendly with the country. The hills R a shade of green that U have never seen before, and the rivers and lakes in the mountains , a blue that has no word in the English language. The food is good too. Summer gets all sold out, sop it may be hard. U can also go backpacking and hostel hopping 4 a lot less. Try Lonely Planet, Thorn Tree links, the best travel sites.

It's nice here in Switzerland. I come here every year for 3 months and love it here. Though expensive, you can have a clean air, nice environment, disciplined people (esp. the traffic) and nice outdoor adventures if you're fun of adventures. Try it! It's true that it's one of the most beautiful country in the world.

Ive been to to Europe several times and my favorite place is still Switzerland !!!!

When I went we stayed in Zurich and just took day trips to different towns.... We stayed at 2 different places because the night we arrived our 5 star hotel had given our room away so they moved us over to a place called the Hotel De Theatre (Or something like that) for the 1st night and to be honest we liked it better then the 5 star place.... Also, it was located near the "old town" part of Zurich and it had a great night life....SO FUN!

The train system in Switzerland is awesome!!! We took the train to Lucerne and did a boat tour on Lake Lucerne and then took a cog wheel train to the top of Mt Pilatetus (Im not sure about spelling) and a cable car back down...It was AMAZING!!!! There is a tourist office located right in the train station in Lucerne where you can find many things to do...

Also, we took a train to Interlocken which was one of the most charming picture perfect villages Ive ever been too. You have to see it!!

As far as the costs --- I went back in 2000 and to be honest I dont remember how much it costs --- Europe in general is pretty pricey -- I wanna say that for every 1 Euro it's 1.50 in US???

A very long time ago. Ask about the Swiss airforce.
They have bases in sheltered valleys. One sees a fighter diving through a pass into a mountain, or coming out of nowhere. Weird. Get a travel guide.

I studied in Switzerland is a wonderful place, in my opinion the best city is Geneva about the cost actually is kind of expensive (at least for me that I'm from Mexico) but maybe if you are from the USA is OK oh by the way don't bring dollars is hard to find were to change them, also if you speak a second language use it because some people don't like to speak in English and could ignore you.
