Are Swiss watches cheaper in Switzerland?

If they are actually Swiss watches then purchasing them in Switzerland means not paying towards shipping charge which means a lower price as opposed to buying it somewhere else.

typically they are not cheaper. You simply get a huge selection of watches..say if you cruize bahnhofstrasse Zurich for example you can get a huge variety of shops. If you drop over 10k sfr on a watch its worth the visit for a good IWC or Omega. If you are looking for something really exceptional for 30k + you can buy a really nice Patec Philip...beautiful watch. Variety is only reason for doing the deal in Switzerland. Bern, Geneva, Basel, Lucerne all have plenty of watches..not only Zurich.

Well when I was there some of the places were cheaper and then some where not. It depends on where you shop and what city that you are in. I found that Zurich and Luzern had cheaper watches than Geneva or Basel did. Also, the currency change will save you. Since I use the dollar...I had twenty cents on every franc so I saved a lot of money because I bought a watch that was 300 francs...It all depends on what you buy and if you are looking for fancy watches don't by Swatch..they are overpriced and not that good looking.

madonna_toller
If they are real genuine, brand watches they are the same as abroad. The most important is YOUR countries currency against the Swiss Franc - the only difference might be +/- in your favour.

Starwalker
madonna_toller is right. the major luxury labels (rolex, omega, etc.) can be cheaper. you have to figure in that you'll get 7.5% VAT back if the purchase is over 400Sfr. and if your native currency is very favorable against the Swiss, you can possibly save 20-30% (at least, that is the case with rolex). one exception is Swatch, which is more expensive in Switzerland than US (though it is by no means a "luxury" watch).

NO !! I live in Canada and have compared when in Europe; Swiss watches are almost 50% !! more expensive in Schweizerland............. From Toronto.

no dear i dont think there is much difference in price there, i went to stzland last year and did a research in prices, everything is expensive there. i m from london and was surprised to find tht swtzland is more expensive than london

Ina
Sadly they are not cheaper here, if you are going for real brand watches. But you might be able to see very expensive brand watches you might not see in shops around the world.
