First to know is where are you from or what passports have you got.
Then simply check this website to check if you require visa to visit France of not:
http://www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/venir/visas/index.html
(click on English site when you do not understand French)
Swiss is not belong to the Schengen visa regulation. And to obtain the Schengeb Visa you have to do that in your country of origin.
But you can obtain some short visit permit (normally maximum 1 weeks) to France or other schengen countres. Please contact the Embassy or Consular of France closer to where you are located now.
Otherwise, if you still want to go to France without visa, try your luck. Sometimes they dont check the border at all.
But, I am not recommending this at all.
Have a pleasant stay in Switzerland. |

It depends on what passport you hold. If you enter Switzerland first, without going through another EEC european country (such as , by air from the USA directly to Switzerland), you may need an additional visa to cross the border from Switzerland to France or other countries.
In 2005, Switzerland, voted by a referendum to ratify the agreement called the Schengen Protocol, which makes it easier for visitors to go from one EEU country to another without having to get a visa or go through a separate passport control each time you cross a national border. However.....Switzerland has not yet implemented this agreement, and is scheduled to go through some administrative changes between April and September of 2007.
Signatories yet to implement the agreement:
Bulgaria aims to implement the agreement in 2009 [3].
Cyprus
Romania
Switzerland
Ireland
United Kingdom
Each new country, before fully implementing the Schengen Agreement, will need to have its preparedness assessed in four areas: air borders, visas, police cooperation, and personal data protection. This evaluation process involves a questionnaire and visits of EU experts to selected institutions and workplaces of the country under assessment. The Council of the European Union is scheduled to review the results between April and September of 2007. [4]
So, yes. IF you had to have a visa to enter Switzerland, you may need to have a visa (usually obtainable at the border of France), to go across the border from Switzerland to France. You should check with the French embassy or consulate in your country about this requirement--the rules may be changed by the time you visit later this year. |

Switzerland is not in the EU, anytime you enter Switzerland from Germany or Austria, or Italy or France, you have to show your passport at the checkpoint. So, yes you will have to have a passport to enter France. In regards to a visa, it will depend, as everyone else said, where you are from and how long you will be staying in the country. There are different lengths of visas you can obtain and a visiting visa should be fairly easy to obtain, depending on where you are from. |

I've crossed the Swiss border to France or Germany maybe 30 times so far and never had my passport checked. But like the others said, don't risk that!
But don't be surprised if you get your visa (if you need it) and then no one ever sees it! |
