In Basel live some 200'000 people, which means that it is one of the largest cities of Switzerland. Yahoo Travel will give you a good general introduction about the city and its most popular attractions.
In June the weather is usually mild and comfortable. The average high is 74°F, the average low 53°F. The average precipitation is 3.9 in.
Switzerland has a very good train system. During the day you'll have several trains per hour between Zurich and Basel. There are also direct trains between Zurich Airport and Basel. The travel time is about an hour. A one way ticket costs CHF 30 in 2nd class or CHF 50 in 1st class; for a return ticket you'll pay twice the price of a one way ticket (1 US$ is worth about 1.20 CHF at the moment).
If you plan to travel a lot by train in Switzerland consider purchasing a half fare card. It costs CHF 150 for a whole year and you'll pay only half the fare on the entire Swiss train system. |

I lived in Basel. It is a fun place. The old market place near city hall. City hall it self. The Rhine River walk, Barefusserplatz. Great outside restraunts and cafes. Live Music at the Atlantis. Museums platz. There is a lot in Basel. it is a Artist town. There is a flea market on saturdays ,near the University. Botanical Garden. hanging out in the park near the train station. YES GO SEE Basel. It is the Drieecke. Three corners. France ,germany and switzerland meet here. |

June is a good time to visit Basel. Pleasant temperature, to sit outside on a cafe and have some pastries.
Train is the best way Zurich Airport has a train station, from there you get right into downtown Basel.
Basel is famous for it's Zoo |

"Walked to the old town and did a little shopping along the way. Remembered Der Teutelhof Basel from our last visit several years ago. It's a hotel, cafe, restaurant and theatre complex. We enjoyed an exquisite pastry and delicious coffee in the cafe, just as before. The old town is always lively, filled with many university students and others just shopping, browsing, walking, eating and drinking - having a good time. The parks are busy and carnivals abound. The shopping streets start at the Rhine and work their way uphill to splendid old buildings and homes. The highlight is the burgundy and gold Rathaus (town hall) in the Marktplace. It's a must-see. The city life is here on the old town side of the Rhine. The other side is mainly industrial, although there are nice residential areas close to the Rhine. The pedestrian zone was filled with street entertainers - mimes and the like. Basel is a sophisticated, yet fun-filled city." |
