Basel inquiry?

How much would it cost me (estimated) if I will take a Cab from Basel airport going to Alexander hotel (also in Basel). Can you also give me an idea about the average public transportation fee in going around Basel and if public transport are available all day.
How much pocket money should I bring if I will stay for 5 five days (just to spend for my food and transportation - no shopping) thanks

I dont know where the Alexander hotel is, but I live near downtown Basel. And to the airport from my place, its around 40 Swiss Franc, and then I give a little tip.

If you rather save money, there is a Bus that goes from the Airport to the Basel SBB (train station). And then from there, you can use to Trams.

Transportation... sometimes your hotel includes a tram pass. Atleast the one I stayed at did. And the Basel Tram transportation is very good. However, if they dont give you a pass, its 1.90 per an adult for a short distance, and 3.00 for a longer distance. Or you can buy a day pass. Just make sure you have some Swiss Franc change, because they have green machines that you buy your tickets from.

Food on the other hand, depends where you want to eat. If your planning on Resturants, its quite expensive, average 30 swiss francs a person. But Mcdonalds is about 12 for an adult meal. Or you can go to the Migros (cheapest grocery store but not many brand names) and get some bread and sandwhich meat, and eat fairly cheaply off of that.

If your doing it cheap, I am sure you can do it off of 200 Swiss Francs, but if you want to eat out every night, you have to account for that.

If you want to email me of where you will be working (in what area) I can tell you what trams to take.

Goddess of Grammar
Just to add to Zenthae's great answer, ALL hotels have to give you a tram pass. They must charge you a visitor's tax, but the tax includes the trams and buses in the city and the bus from the airport. If you take the bus from the airport to your hotel (so before the hotel has the chance to give you your pass), a confirmation of your registration in the hotel counts as your ticket.
