I agree with your opinion about the Swiss railway system - it's very reliable, though not very cheap. A special Swiss rail pass is available. Here is a link for its price: http://www.myswissalps.com/swissrailpassprices.asp?lang=EN#swisspass

Here is an itinerary for you:

First day: By train to Grindelwald, the glacier village. The famous Eiger northface is virtually above you. Breathtaking!

Second day: By train to Wengen and via Kleine Scheidegg to the top of Europe: Jungfraujoch! Definitely something you'll never forget, although expensive.

Third day: By train and cablecar to MĂĽrren, then on to Schilthorn/Piz Gloria. Marvelous circular view onto dozens of snow capped mountains. A James Bond movie has been taken up there! (www.schilthorn.ch).

Fourth day: Round trip over three passes with postal coach from Meiringen, easy to reach from Interlaken. One of the higlights Switzerland has to offer! (http://www.myswitzerland.com/de/offer-Activities_Excursions-Public%20Transport-17295.html). Sorry, their website seems to come only in German. The trip depends on road conditions (winter ban lifted?).

Fifth day: Schynige Platte, Aare-Schlucht (Gorge), Harder, or, or, or... There are millions of ideas to be fullfilled if staying in Interlaken.

Sixht day, if you're tired of all that beauty ;-): Take the boat to Thun, an old Zähringer town with a castle, then the train to Berne, the capital of Switzerland for some shopping. Look out for the local specialty, the "Läbchueche", say hellow to the bears, and, and, and...

Happy travelling in the Land of the Helvets!
