Can anyone suggest a good 4 day itinerary in Geneva, including Lausanne and Montreux?

I'm going to Geneva this September (I know, it's going to be rainy), and I'll be there for 4 days, well, 3 full days actually, because I have to go to Zurich on the the afternoon of the 4th day. I really want to see Lausanne and Montreux as well, as both have been highly recommended. What would be a good itinerary for these 3.5 days? Is a full day enough to see the notable places in Lausanne and Montreux, and leave the 2 full days in Geneva?

It won't be necessary rainy. In Switzerland, we can't ever forecast that kind of thing :)

Alright, your itinerary seems to be already quite full actually. 3 days and half is quite short.

The only thing that is missing you would be the transport. Unless you already have a car, I recommend you to predict the 'where will you be at what time'.

For it, I suggest you the official website of the train station :
http://www.sbb.ch/en/index.htm

Hope this helps.

If you like the mountains, take the train to Gstaad or Zermatt for a bit of hiking and wandering around. This is Switzerland after all. Lausanne and Montreux both have their charms with some overlap with each other and Geneva. One (very) full day is enough for both. Château de Chillon is worthy of a few hours as are the hills above Montreux and up to Leysin. Boat around Lac Leman might be a good way to sample the area. Gruyere is enjoyable if you are traveling by car and pass nearby on the way to Zurich. Weather can often be quite nice. Gorges du Trient if you are traveling by car up the Rhone Valley past Montreux.

First: Don't worry, September can be one of the best months in Switzerland! Let me suggest this as an itinerary: One or two days for Geneva (check their official website http://www.geneva-tourism.ch/?lang=_eng or google with the town's name - a nice town with a beautiful lake), half a day for Lausanne (nothing really interesting to be seen), half a day for Montreux and Château de Chillon (famous!). Then on to Zurich - I'ld rather be here for another day, plenty(!) to be seen.

Have fun!
