Thun - Berne is best and only done by train! The ride only takes 19 minutes with reliable and safe Swiss Federal Railways; see here: http://fahrplan.sbb.ch/bin/query.exe/en?

Of course, you can drive the 31.3 kms (approx. 25 min). Or walk :-)

Something you might consider: In summer, take a rubber ducky, jump into the river Aare and let yourself float down to the capital. Takes 2 - 4 hours, lots of fun, though.
