Well, you did not mention if intending to eat in restaurants, take-aways or simply buy something cheap in a supermarket.

Swiss restaurants - specially in the urban and/or touristic regions you'd like to visit - are expensive, but there are different price levels as anywhere else too.

McDonalds is available anywhere (a Big Mac meal with drink costs about CHF 12). In a restaurant, a worker's lunch could be around CHF 25 including a drink, for dinner you'd better calculate CHF 35-40 (with a drink; each glass of wine would be an extra CHF 5 the least).

In the late 1980s, a sandwich, shake and fries in McDonald's in Geneva cost the equivalent of US $7(when $7 was a lot of money).

As the other guy said, its hard to give a good estimate. When i was there, i tended to eat at the kabob stands and in the hauptbanhof for my lunch. You can get away for 6chf per person for lunch in this manner. At dinner, we went to this great italian restaurant in lucerne called the gondola, if i remember correctly, it was around 28chf for the meal, with drinks. Thats what is so great about switzerland, you can eat great either way you prefer. If you are doing 2 meals a day, its probably around 40 to 60chf per person, but you can go cheap. Thats my style anyway.

I just returned this week from 2 weeks in Switzerland and the information provided by the others is accurate. I might add that although you'll find McDonald's and KFC in all the cities you mention, they are NOT inexpensive alternatives to local cafes. To eat healthier, I chose to buy grocery store food and highly preferred Coop to Migros, because of a better selection of sandwiches, salads, yogurt etc. With that method, you can eat quite well (and healthy!) for 6-8 francs per meal. (Yesterday a franc was USD 0.82) The large grocery stores close at 6:30 PM weekdays, 5 PM on Saturdays and they're all closed on Sunday. However there are laws allowing extended hours for stores in train stations (at least 8 PM and sometimes until 10). To take advantage of that exception, there are big shopping centers in the train stations. In addition, Coop has a chain of convenience stores called Pronto. Those are quite good--with plenty of quality produce and healthy choices. It was refreshing considering what I'm accustomed to finding in 7/11's or US minimarts. Those are open at least 10:30 PM depending on the city. There's one of those just west of the park on the main street of Interlaken. The one in the Lausanne train station had a wonderful salad bar!

Very hard to say. Are you going to restaurants for all three meals???
Lunch can cost app. CHF 20.00 per pers.
Dinner app. CHF 30 to 40.00 per pers.

You can go for lunch at Migros, Coop or Manor for less. Self-service (like buffet-style), pay the each item on your tray..
Try to go where the locals are eating. These cafes/restaurants will charge less than where the tourists are going.

I think it's really expensive there, especially if you're from the states. My husband and I had a pizza and a coke each at a little diner in Zurich and the meal was 55 franks. We spent a lot on food. Everything was high, though. The clothing shops, the souviner shops... I'd be prepared to spend 100 franks a day on food assuming you aren't dining in fancy restraunts, in that case be prepared to spend a lot more.
