Good place to visit in Switzerland? |
My family and I are going to Switzerland on vacation this summer but we aren't really sure where. I have been to Lucerne but otherwise we have just stopped through. Where is a good location in or very near to the Swiss Alps? Thanks! |

A very popular area is the Lauterbrunnen valley. Near Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen is in a mountainous valley with many waterfalls, including the spectacular Trummelbach falls, which are actually inside a mountain.
Rick Steves has popularized the small town of Gimmelwald, which is on a mountainside in the valley, and is accessible by taking a gondola up. There are many things to do in the area from hiking, to biking, to taking the gondola all the way to the top of the Schilthorn (where the James Bond movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" was filmed) or taking a cogwheel train to the top of the Jungfraujoch, which is called the highest railway station in Europe.

interlaken is great to explore various places in the alps. kandersteg is a smaller town but a very beautiful hiking area in the alps. it's close to Oeschinensee http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oeschinen_Lake which is a wonderful place!! my boyfriends parents live up there through the summer (they go up there with cows and other animals) and live a very simply up there, it's possible to stay overnight with them. contact me if you want more information! riederalp or bettmeralp are very beautiful too, they are close to the aletsch glacier http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aletsch and they are car-free places which i liked a lot when i was there, it's very quiet. i hope you'll like it here!! |

Interlaken is a good place. From there, you can take a train to Jungfraujoch- Top of Europe. I just came back from there on vacation. I highly recommend that you go there.The view is simply magnificent! you will not regret it. You can read up more on it here..
