Almost on every trip to Switzerland! Beautiful castle, fantastic views. It is hardly any point of recommending any particular restaurants - the village is very small and has maybe around 10 of them, all roughly the same standard. Look out for those which have terraces at the back with beautiful views over the sorrounding valley. I seem to remember that half way through the village there was this restaurant in a big wooden hut smelling of cheese. That might be interesting. The village is certainly the most beautiful one in the world.

One thing out of place is probably Giger Museum (do not enter with children - apart from gross designs for Alien monster there is also quite a lot of explicit sexual stuff), and the bar opposite which has interiors designed after Giger.

A tip: if you go to Gruyer go, DO go to nearby Broc. There is Callier-Nestle chocolate factory. The tour takes just 5 minutes, and then you can taste lots of fantastic chocolate in a tasting room. As much as you like...:-)))

Yes I was in Gruyere in March. Just take walk through this beautifull town and you will stumble across a few places to eat. The cheese is on display everywhere. Take a good camera. You can do the walk along the walls of the town with stunning scenery 360 degrees. There was also this bar/restaurant with the most amazing copy of a dinosours skeleton on the inside. It is the most interesting place to stop and admire. Take a walk from the station up to the walled town. it is spectacular. i loved the place

yes and liked the cheese, also the museum of giger is around, the guy that made e.g. the aliens in the aliens movies. his museum is in a castle.

Yes it's lovely.
We just picked a random fondue place--I don't remember off-hand but I'm sure there were a few of them--and it was great. Interestingly they used potatoes instead of bread, apparently that's the tradition there and who am I to argue? Even my husband who's Swiss isn't about to argue fondue with anyone in Gruyeres!

Besides fondue you must have the double cream. Don't wear your tightest jeans!

There's a semi-cool cheese factory, I don't seem to remember being allowed the run of the place, but you can peek in on them. And the village itself is really pretty, as is the view.

no idea but hope you enjoy your visit and the smelly cheese
