Has anyone ever been to Lugano Switzerland? What were your experiences like there?

Feel free to go into as much detail as you want.

Lugano is the largest city in the Tessin. This is the Italian speaking area of Switzerland. Lugano has a definite mediterranean feel. But like the rest of Switzerland, it is very organized and calm.

Lugano is less expensive than the German speaking areas of Switzerland, like Zurich, Basel, etc. The weather is usually nicer as it is on the southern side of the Alps.

The lake is surrounded by beautiful mountains in the background, giving it a look something like Lake Tahoe. But the Italian flavor gives it a much different atmosphere.

Lugano has a beautiful, though small, old town center, which is a wonder pedestrian area, that is often very lively in the evenings, due to festivals or just people out for a walk and meal.

You can read more about Lugano and Lugano area hotels at the link below:

Lugano is fantastic. We used to go there all the time as it is right on the way to Italy. Great Italian food and beautiful views. I highly recommend it for a visit. Just like the rest of Switzerland, it is very expensive, but it was always one of our favorite areas.

Lugano is the home of the University of my son. It is a beautiful town, but very congested. If you come from the highwyay one time you saw a beautiful town, now there are too much building site Too bad. However it is certainly beautiful, right on the lake. You can go hiking in the mountains of the area such as the San Salvatore. A few kilometers from Lugano there is the Italian enclave of Campione d'Italy with his famous Casino.
We attached sites for more information.

Yes.
Um, great. A refreshing change from stuffy Zurich. Great ice-cream from the stand off the main piazza near the lake (hope that's helpful)...I forget why we swam in the pool rather than the lake.
