Hi there,

depending on what you want to do the first thing should be to just walk around town.
Zurich itself is very nice and you already get a very nice overview if you just start at the main station and walk the Bahnhofstrasse towards the lake.
From there many little streets turn off to the left (East), take one of them which looks nice and explored the older part of town. Cross the river and continue on that side.
Sights to see are the two larger churches and the old town itself. If you like art, visit the Kunsthaus. Also, if the weather is bad (as it is right now) go and visit the city museum, just north of the main station.

An other very nice thing is to take a boat on lake Zurich and travel to Rapperswil. On your trip will you get good views of the alps (nice weather assumed) and an overview of the wonderful landscape around.

If you want to see some places around Zurich and have a spare day to travel around, I would suggest the following:
1. by car
Drive via Luzern (no stop) to Grindelwald (Bernese Mountains) and take the train up to Kleine Scheidegg. The returntrip can be done via Bern.
By doing this will you see some of the nices mountains in Switzerland and get an impression of the country.
2. by train
- Visit Luzern and its old town. Take a boat on the lake.
- Visit the Swiss capital Bern, it's old town is also very nice.

Hope this helps
Ina
