Bern is pretty close to the alps. take the train to Thun - Interlaken - Lauterbrunnen and then to Wengen or Mürren. it's about 50km (30 miles) and by train it's about 45 min.
from Wengen you can visit the Jungfraujoch by train, it's called "Top of Europe". the journey to the Jungfraujoch from Wengen is pretty expensive and goes about 1h20', but it's nice to see. on the Jungfraujoch you will find a cavern, called "Ice Palace" that is built in the eternal ice.
