How long does it take to drive from St. Moritz to Florence?

... and what are the general driving conditions (considering 2 kids in the back seat)

It's about 6.5 hours according to the map24.com, which normally is considerably correct.

Starting in St. Moritz, you'll have to go down Maloya Pass which is quite steep and has a lot of turns. It's a two lane road in perfect condition. If your kids get car sick easily you might have to go slowly. It's an absolutely beautiful drive! In winter there is a high chance to have ice and snow on the road.

In Italy you will hit the autostrada (four lanes, costs a fee) quite soon. It goes along beautiful lake Como but you won't see a lot of it as the autostrada goes through a lot of tunnels. When you come close to Milan you might hit heavy traffic depending on the day of week and time of day.

From Milan to Florence you stay on the autostrada to Bologna. The country is mostly flat and the autostrada mostly strait. Before Bologna, where you might hit heavy traffic again, you turn right and the autostrada has lots of turns and tunnels until Florence. Again it is really beautiful.

In my opinion the kids will be fine. Just consider enough breaks. There are enough restaurants on the autostrada to have break every now and then.

Have a fun trip!
