in springtime i would recommend to go to Lugano/Locarno (southern part of Switzerland with already nice and warm weather).
on the other hand you could also visit the Lake Geneva region, Geneva, Lausanne, Vevey, Montreux.

Switzerland is very small. So if you make the wrong choice you can always travel by train around almost from one side to the other in 4-6 hours. Grab a 20 Minuten newpaper and look for events (of course german experience would help).
Basel
why? It gives you a look at Switzerland most tourists don't see. I love it because it epitomizes swiss culture. There are clubs where the teens hang out in. Barfuesserplatz is the city's entertainment plaza with theaters, food, and shops, but it still remains quaint. It's placed right near the french and german borders so you can easily hop on a train and cross. The Rhine river runs through it and has some restaurants along it, old churches, etc. It was one of the places where the European cup was held, along with Zurich and some other place, maybe Luzern. There is a particularly good art museum. German Speaking.
IT IS NOT A big TOURIST CITY. FYI it's a more chill experience but an excellent choice.
My next choice would be to take a trip to Wallis. Yep, that's where the Matterhorn is! You can get some quality skiing or snowboarding in, hiking as well. I don't know any specific cities in that area, Wallis is the name of the region.
St. Ursanne
Beautiful small swiss town with not much in it. Much less to do than Basel but similar quaint experience. I biked there.
Zurich
Classic town, I however do not remember doing much other than shopping. Everyone talks about the "Bahnhofstrasse" but it really isn't much. There is a nice museum across from the train station I never visited. German speaking.
Lausanne
why? very pretty scenic lake and view of alps. Olympic Museum. French speaking. Shops.
Luzern
I can't remember what was cool about it. I didn't spend enough time there but it's one of those cities you're supposed visit.
Bern
Swiss capital. It doesn't have much to do. You'll find clubs in any of these cities but I went to a Latin like one called Shakira while i was there. The crime rate is supposedly higher here as opposed to the rest of insanely safe switzerland. |
