I am plannning to take the whole route of Glaciar Express. However if i opt for local trains instead of?
Glaciar express, eventhough i have to change, i can avoid the crowds plus i will have freedom to choose the sections. Does local trains follow same route or there is a special track for Glaciar Express. Is the experience same? Which section of the Zermott-St Moritz is most spectacular?
The route is the same. I wouldn't say there are "crowds" on the Glacier Express, especially since you need to reserve a seat, which you don't on the other trains. The other advantage of the Glacier express is the headphone commentary, and if you want lunch, it's better (I think) than what you'll get on the other trains (also more expensive). The mountains are the same either way, and if by "choose the sections" you mean get off and back on later, that may well be worth it.
I think the Zermatt end is the most spectacular, but that's also the bit I've done most recently and only once.
