Heii! Im from Switzerland and I live in Interlaken since 16 years. So I thought I have to answer this question...!
It's true, we have a lot of tourists here, but Interlaken is really pretty. From Interlaken, you have good train connections and there are many good places to visit. Interlaken is a pretty little town, it's not a big city like Bern or Zürich, but it's kind of typical for Switzerland. Interlaken has 2 train stations, you are really fast in Bern or in the mountains. I can highly recommend Interlaken.
Ringgenberg is really close to Interlaken, they are neighbor cities. When I take the bike from my house, I'm there in 5min. I guess it's better if you stay in Interlaken. But itt doesn't really matter, if you stay in Ringgenberg or Interlaken. If you go with the train, you have to use anyway the trainstation from Interlaken because Ringgenberg has just one little trainstation and bad connections. But with the bus, you have 5min from one of the cities to the other. IMPORTANT: It's absolutly not true, that Thun is a bad city. I would even say it's better than Interlaken. It has less tourists, really goos connections, close to Bern, good for shopping.....! It's also next to a lake. So in Summer it's beautiful to take a ship-trip, or to go swimming.
Some other cities I always like to visit are Bern, Zürich, Grindelwald and Gstaad. Bern and Zürich are the biggest cities from Switzerland. They have a big population, a lot of shops...! Grindelwald and Gstaad are both more rural. They are typical cities of Switzerland. Grindelwald is maybe an hour from Interlaken away. So you can also make a day-trip from there to Grindelwald. The only thing is, Grindelwald and Gstaad are both pretty isolated, it takes a long time to go to other places.
So, have fun on your trip and just ask me if you have more questions. And I'm sorry for my english, I hope you can understand what I wrote. |

Interlaken or Lucerne are fine, but if you want easy train connections to travel around the country, Bern is much better, centralized and have trains going to all directions , (unlike Interlaken which has two very small train stations).....and it is the capital of Switzerland too, hehe |

I haven't been to Interlaken or the towns you listed at the end of your sentence. However, I spent three days in Lucerne(Luzerne) in 1985. It is very centrally located in the country, and is a beautiful city nestled among the Alps. |

Well Interlaken is a very touristy area but is also very beautiful and is popular for many reasons.
If you are visiting in the summer and you wish to stay away from tourist area's la diableret is a very nice town which has great transport links due to its train station.
Or very close to Interlarken there is Adelboden, this is a half way point between Interlarken and Le deadleray, it has plenty of activity's for tourists but is not ruined by it. All these towns are within a hours or two on the train so you have plenty of choices. stay away from Thun though! I found it to be very bland boring unattractive large town compared to the rest of Switzerland has to offer. (All of these town are also very good for skiing too)
Or if it is culture and fun your looking for Zurich is your place and i highly recommend it..... stay away from long straten late at night tho ;)
hope this was usefull but Swizerland has so much to offer so what every the choice youll enjoy it! |
