I got a job offer in Basel, Switzerland with annual salary of 40K British pound.?
I got a job offer in Basel, Switzerland with annual salary of the equivalent of 40K British pound. (That will be around 80K swiss franc). What is the cost of living like in Basel and is it a good offer to take, considering I am single? Thanks in advance for your answer.
40 K quid is (to give you an example) a good salary for a three lingual secretary in the frontier town of Basel (France on its left, Germany on its right). You therefore should be well off living as a single.
For living costs, start checking with the website of the federal bureau of statistics: http://www.bfs.admin.ch/bfs/portal/en/index.html
Or read here: http://www.swissworld.org/en/economy/wages_and_prosperity/cost_of_living/ (...Statistics released by the European Union in 2002 showed that Switzerland was the third most expensive country in Europe, after Norway and Iceland....).
As for petrol, we're making it right now - the French and Germans flood our border petrol stations ;-)
