Avoid expensive Restaurants! Supermarkets like MIGROS and COOP have their own Restaurants where you can eat quite cheaply. In Zürich even Sandwiches sold in the streets are fairly expensive. But a must try: roasted "Bratwurst" (veal sausage) sold in streets stands.

i would stay outside zurich in suburbs of zurich, walk aroud an use public transpot, dont bother to rent a car or hire cab ofcourse.
for dining, i wont go tu fancy restraunts, you can get fast foods like macdonald there too, grab a sandwich for lunch/breakfast at starbucks.
good luck and enjoy

Stay in Zurich, don't try to go see everything. You can find reasonably priced hotels or hostels in Zurich. Go eat at the ''blind cow'' restaurant while you're there. Its a restaurant for the benefit of the blind. The waiters are blind and you eat in complete darkness so you can experience food the way they do. Its a little uncomfortable at first, but you get used to it quickly, or at least I did, and you'll remember it for a long long time.
You might think that Zurich is too expensive, but as soon as you try getting out of Zurich, especially by train, you'll see that the money it costs to get out is significant enough that you might as well stay there for two days.
