hey all.. im planning a trip to europe and want to meet up with a couple friends from switzerland.. last time we all met in zurich, which was AWESOME but we were trying to think of somewhere different this time! one of them lives in montreaux, and says its great.. i was wondering what you all think of it!
also my cousin will be with me who has never been to europe.. if this is the only time she ever goes to switzerland, i want to leave her with a good and fun impression of it. would montreaux be good for that? thank u!!!! |

Montreux is for me personally one of the most beautiful places in Switzerland. It has a micro-climate and it's warmer than other places in the area. However, it's very quite and there is not much to do in the evening. There is an exception!
Go to Montreux during the Jazz Festival. It's one of the best music festivals worldwide and they don't perform just jazz. The famous song by "Smoke On The Water" by Deep Purple was written there. This years jazz festival will start July 3 and will last 15 days:

If you want to go to Montreux, be sure that you can be there at least a few days during the festival. You have to book early if you want to stay in town during the festival.

Montreux is like heave on earth. If you were my family, that'd be one of the places I'd take you to. Also, while you're in the area, be sure to check out the Chateau de Chillon. If you're there in the summertime, you can visit the Montreux Jazz Festival which is a really fun thing to do with your friends. Whatever you do in Montreux, you're sure to leave with lifelong memories of the place! |

should give you an idea on how it looks. fantastic place. if in summer, take the boat from lausanne to montreux; you could stop in vevey for a glass of wine, or even drive up to the le mirador kempinski hotel, for the most breathtaking view.
in montreux stroll along the lake shore, and if you fancy mountains take the train up to rochers-de-naye for a view on the alps.
